If you are lobbying for a full fledged tank I've got no argument for you. That's something only a small portion of fans promote. It's not a real thing.

The previous poster said it looked like we were going for it. That's just kinda crazy to suggest. A full on tank is something that likely kills a lot of support for this team.

That's not a tank, it's forcing the terrible GM to play the guys he wanted, while saving cap space and maximizing your draft capitol for the future.  That's not tanking, not in the least, it's playing the hand you were dealt while not going all in with a pair of deuces like we tried to do last year.

What evidence do you have that Hurney is a yes man

2019 NFL draft. Ron Rivera headed out the door. Everyone knew it, even Ron. Team allowed to switch to a 3-4 defense and the entire draft is based on that switch. He went right along with it. A competent GM would have told him no, work with the pieces I give you. You don't switch schemes for a coach you know is on the hot seat and likely fired at the end of the season. Typical behavior of our resident GM yes man.

We drafted a total of 2 defensive players in 19, one of which will be a starting DE in the 4-3 as well.  To say the entire draft was based on the 3-4  is a bit of a stretch.

The entire draft was based off the 3-4. Whether or not we only took 2 players on defense, which players were even being looked at and considered was affected as well. Players are drafted based on their ability to fit a scheme and our picks were based on a 3-4 defense. So it's fair to say the entire draft was based on the 3-4 because players that fit that scheme are who we were targeting, not the 4-3 we had been playing and are now playing again.

GMs don't decide defensive schemes.  If the head coach says they are changing to a 3-4, then it's the GMs job to find players to fit.

But if a head coach is on the hot seat, likely out the door, do you allow him to upend your entire franchise to try and save his job? If it's reached that point it's over already. Rivera had every opportunity for years to run the 3-4 if it's the defense he was most comfortable with. It was obvious this switch was a last ditch effort. You can't allow that to happen as a GM. You have to look beyond a single season.
