From Jets.

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added a running back Tuesday, picking up Trenton Cannon off waivers after he was cut by the Jets on Monday.

A sixth-round pick of the Jets in the 2018 draft, Cannon appeared in all 16 games as a reserve running back as a rookie and played 19 percent of New York's offensive snaps. But the Virginia State product dealt with foot and ankle injuries last year and was placed on injured reserve Nov. 1.

Cannon, who's listed at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, had 38 carries for 113 yards with a touchdown as a rookie. He also caught 17 passes for 144 yards. He did not have any offensive touches in 2019 but did take five kick returns for 96 yards.

The Panthers roster now stands at 80 players.

The Panthers claimed running back Trenton Cannon off waivers on Tuesday. A sixth-round pick by the Jets in 2018, Cannon fills the roster spot opened when edge rusher Christian Miller opted out of this season due to Covid-19 concerns. He brings the roster back to 80

Good move.  In addition to his ability as a kick returner, you can see the evolution of having more "positionless" skill players on offense.

I honestly this year would not be surprised if Curtis Samuel has the 2nd most carries behind CMC.

I am excited about the versatility of our backs and WRs this year.  However, it means nothing if the offensive line cannot perform better.

I'm down for watching us lose a lot of high-scoring games this year.  2011 was way more exciting than any other 6-10 season in memory (honestly I hope we win less than 4 to have a chance at a top QB).

Definitely interested to see how Brady uses Samuel. I've always felt like we could be using him in more innovative ways given his background. I'd love to see some formations with him and CMC in the backfield together. Both could potentially take a handoff, be a receiver out of the backfield, or motion out wide.
