go canes! 1-0 to start the playoff run

Huge win, I think one of the announcers said back when 5 game series’ were the norm, like 85% of teams that won game 1 won the series. That’s a very significant first game when it’s best of 5.

The Checkers were fleecing them.  Pretty much the Canes gave them a discount for the affiliation.  The Checkers didn't want to up the ante.  Also the Checkers got mad at the Canes for calling up players to often during playoff pushes.  Checkers should have known their place.  The Canes pretty much handed them a Calder.

If they were pulling up their best guys during playoff pushes how did they hand CLT the Calder? Not trying to play devils advocate but  sounds a little contradictory.

I do remember them recalling guys very frequently during the playoffs that year.

Can someone explain to me why there is no checking going on in either game so far? This is like watching Olympic hockey. Did I miss a rule change?

If you’re referring to the Blackhawks games it’s because they are too busy scoring.

j/k

Blackhawks were killing it and still most likely got this W. But that Edmonton goalie was plain bad today.

Mrazek was slow as Fug today too but he didn’t stray too much from the goal and our defense was on point.

Mrazek is our Achilles heel. He is an average goalie at best, so the rest of our team has to elevate their play to make up for him.

At his very best, he's a borderline elite goalie. But he is just so inconsistent and streaky and also very wild and aggressive that it's impossible to rely on him. He had a 20+ game streak of dominant play last year late in the regular season that was a huge reason we even made the playoffs after our terrible start. But then he wasn't great in the playoffs, with that injury against the Islanders cutting into his momentum a bit.

I 100% agree that goaltending is our weakest link, but if Mrazek is on, we could definitely make a run. I thought he was okay today, had a couple really nice saves but wasn't challenged much and the 2nd goal was kinda weak. We'll definitely need more than him if we want to go deep but I don't think Reims is a better answer.

Reimer is less risky, IMO. He still isn't a great goalie, however.

Mrazek is capable of elite play but you don't see it often enough to call him anywhere close to elite.

It is what it is, we just better hope one of them catches lightening in a bottle this postseason.

Well the Canes called up a lot of players this season more then last. Also the Canes have one of the deepest farms in the league.  Even with the call ups the Checkers had many NHLers on their roster due to the Canes.

Also I dont think the Checkers were too pleased with the Canes trading a lot of the Checkers good players to upgrade their roster. A defensemen, for instance, like Jake Bean could bring in serious veteran NHL talent.

In essence, I dont think they liked being treated like a farm team.
