Probably not a good way to kick it off with the new employer.  While it is an illness, and I we don't know the exact circumstances it does make you wonder if they take this seriously.  The first thing that comes to mind is kids not taking it seriously.

yeah the rangers basically took us behind the woodshed all season. hopefully we’ve learned a few new tricks since then.

It's amazing. I can know if a complete stranger thousands of miles from me has covid, but if a co worker gets it my employer wont even let me know what shift they worked on or area.

You can get on the list even without a positive test. Example if you cross paths with person with convid, they can put you on the list.
