Goodbye Gano

GOAT

Recommended Posts

I think the Butker move is probably the worst move Hurney has made since he came back.  But ironically, after Butker was traded, Gano was having probably the best run of his career for us.   In 2017, he only missed one fg, a 50 plus yarder.  In 2018, he was having a similar run until the detroit game, when it appeared he was hurting.

Ah well, hope Joey S can take last years performance and improve on it.

Ummm, it was a massive blunder, both at the time and in retrospect.

However, his worst mistake since coming back may well end up being trading up for Little and drafting a a QB never destined to hit the field with a top 100 pick...in the same draft....while ignoring interior O Line.....AGAIN...during a particularly strong interior O Line draft.

Or.

Restructuring KK and Luke.

Or.

Extending Olsen and TD.

There are more though, we can keep going.

What’s wrong? Does the truth bother you this much? Anything false about what I said? How insecure and uninformed are you that instead of debating the point, you just want someone to go away. I understand from your point of view. All these ”negative” takes keep being right. Must be frustrating.

Fact is I was upset about the release of Butker, only because I don't feel money should be invested in kickers.  Saying that Gano is average at best is not accurate.  At the time of his contract he was a top 5 kicker in the league, and is still more reliable than Slye.

It must be nice to claim the local team when things are going well then switch loyalties to your childhood team when things look dark.

"at the time"

Look at his career average, he's an average PK, who had 1 good year.

I have broken this down many times, the cost per field goal difference between what we paid Gano and what we would have paid Butker (who I'm pretty sure would STILL be on his rookie deal) is simply amazing.

He’s an 82% kicker for his career. Including that anomaly of 2017 with no hard kicks. And still his usual 3 missed XPs a season. Where does that percentage put him most years. Average(at best)

Having one good season doesn’t make you a top 5 PK. Especially coming off his 2016 debacle.

And what are you talking about local team? I was a fan of Cam. Not the Panthers. Never stated otherwise. Sorry if it offends you that someone with a ton of knowledge on your team, and no stake in it, gives an opinion. And watching this board eat each other alive is too much fun to give up.

So are you just gonna hate-watch the Panthers and gloat on here? Is that your deal?

I doubt me, or anyone wants to watch this team anytime soon. Except to see Derrick Brown play some, I don’t care what the current Panthers do. But watching a fan base(minus about 5-10 posters) be so clueless and delusional is hilarious. I, and others, who have said anything that wasn’t “team-friendly” , have to hear how we are negative and wrong. But when reality hits, well we see what happens.

Would it be better if I created six new accounts and just hollered about racism, politics, religion or whatever crutch folks are clinging to?

You can do whatever you want, I don’t really care.

But I mean, as far as “clueless and delusional,” you could go on AuburnUndercover and there’s probably people talking about how if Nix can put it together and Gus doesn’t foul it up, Auburn can run the table in the SEC. There’s nothing wrong with a fan base being optimistic in the face of realistically sucking to various degrees.

I beefed with a Lions fan once last year while he was saying Detroit was a lock to win at least 11 games and take the division. We both knew that poo wasn’t happening, but it’s OK because that’s part of being a fan.

You have to give Toomers a little leeway. He’s too busy celebrating the  death of Harvey Updike to give a poo about the Panthers.

Hurney’s in charge of the roster, I can’t blame Rivera for that at all.

They worked hand in hand. Both were absolutely horrible for each other. Hopefully Rhule takes over all GM duties at some point. Hurney has always been terrible.

Tell you what. Go sign up and post those thoughts on any AU message board. Let me know how that goes. My guess is you get laughed off the board. Then try something similar on a Steelers board. That won’t go well either.

And comparing ONE delusional fan to 90% of this board doesn’t work. Was that fan defending all the idiotic moves his team made that were complete failures. Just like the world, people don’t want the truth. They want to hear what makes them feel better. Nothing is ever wrong. Which is exact why you, and others don’t want me posting.

    • I’ve been holding out on this because I knew I would just be called a homer. I’m sure some will still say I am and that we shouldn’t care about the underwear Olympics without seeing the tape. That being said…. this guy is an absolute freak. 6’3 220, 43” vertical, and 4.38 unofficial 40. And I can tell you I am not surprised in the slightest by following him since he was an under recruited high schooler putting up 232 tackles, 4 sacks, and 8 forced fumbles his senior year of high school (ONE YEAR!). He developed into the leader on the defense and was always the one making clutch plays.  He is going to be the Luke Kuechly for a defense at safety for a decade. I expect some team will draft him top 15, maybe even top 10. I go back and forth on whether you use a top 10 pick on a safety but at the end of the day, I think you pick a superstar no matter what position. I would prefer us get a top pass rusher or maybe even WR but I would be thrilled to land Nick E if we don’t get one of those guys. Would much rather have him over a guy like Jaylon Walker who is super intriguing but doesn’t have the production to back it up.
    • How is this guy still employed by ESPN?  He's probably the worst beat journalist I've ever seen
    • We could also draft a guy of that caliber on a much smaller contract deal.
