The Jags haven’t been to 2 Super Bowls

There are only 10 teams in the NFL who have been to less than 2 Super Bowls. There are only 8 teams who have never won a Super Bowl.

We should aim higher.

It's good to aim higher but we should probably use appropriate context too. We're one of the newest franchises, only being in existence for 25 years. If we instead look at how many teams have been to 2 or more super bowls since we existed, the number drops to only 13 (including us). And only 6 teams been to more than 2 in that span (New England, Pitt, St. Louis/LA, Green Bay, Denver and Seattle). So in that context, only 6 teams have gone to more while 19 have gone to fewer super bowls. I'd say we have done alright. But I agree I'd love for us to do better moving forward

Let's be real, ever since Hurney was promoted starting with Julius Peppers his first round picks have been exceptional in comparison to most other teams when he actually places a pick(trading up after the 1st round... Such as 09/10 is not his strong suit). If Hurney has one strength at all, it's drafting in the 1st round.

Since 2002, our worst draft pick in the first round has been Vernon Butler and that was a Dave Gettleman pick.

I agree but we can dig into ‘context’ forever. What about taking all teams first 25 years? Can we even do that though? Because at one point there were only a handful of teams to compete with not 32.

I love stats but I’m not digging that far lol

I can tell you if we got by stats since 1995, inception, the Panthers  just recently graduated from being in the bottom 30% to 50% in w/l ratio compared to all teams...but barley. Though that was after the 15-1 season and doesn’t include the atrocious last season...we could have dropped back down to the bottom 1/3.

But I digress. The Panthers have always been complacent, mediocre from owner to GM to players. If we want to feel good we have to compare the Panthers to the bottom of the barrel.

Luckily all that has changed, hopefully that means finally getting that Lombardi and solidifying the Falcons as the poo stain of the NFCS as they were always meant to be.

I want Marty gone just like most fans, just adding to the stew.

Marty took over a 1-15 team, they lost 15 in a row and talent was 1-15 level too.

You can not compare Panthers years 1 -25 to Green Bay, Chicago, Dallas years 50-75. Even today after 25 years the panthers as a whole are learning stuff as a team.

Honestly wished both Dave and Marty where a co-commishers, where one is weak the other is strong. Dave sets the price for FAs/re-signing panthers and only marty deals with the player/agents. Draft wise, Marty makes the 1st and both collab on the rest with Dave having more input(same for UDFAs). Marty deals with the public, dave sets the team rules. Dave is in charge of trades, Mary does the talking and details.

As much as people make fun of the jags on this forum I always chuckle. Since inception, the Jags are almost identical to the Panthers and resemble them in almost every aspect, namely franchise wins/losses closer than any other team in the NFL.

lol

How many superbowls have they been to? Not identical at all

How many teams have been to the superbowl at least twice in the span that the Panthers have existed.... not many

Hurney's problems are not aligned with the players he picks as much as who he does not pick.  We went years with substandard players at key positions.  For example, name a good DT he drafted before Brown?  Name a good free agent signing at DT before Brown?  (Jenkins was before Hurney, I think).  What about WR?  He likes RBs and LBs.  They are more low risk and have quicker production turnaround time.  Many start as rookies.  That is just the draft.  In free agency, he has overpaid at times, leaving the account dry at other positions---do not look at who he signed--look at who he didn't sign.

Then there are the players he obviously falls in love with---Marty seems hell bent to trade up  in every draft.   I think Chinn was a good trade-

I will say that I liked the draft and I really like the undrafted free agent signings.  I think 3-5 or so will be on the roster.  (2 LBs, Bayless WR, and maybe the OL from Ohio St and/or Auburn)

I think Hurney's fault is almost always with the second contract.  I still can't believe he decided keeping both Stewart and Williams at high salary was a good idea. And le'ts not forget paying a declining and injured Jake Delhomme.

If we can get him to stick with scouting and drafting colleg eplayers and have someone else negotiate contracts and manage the cap, we may have a winning formula.
