Shaq had arguably his best year last season, even outplaying Luke (who admittedly had a down year).  His contract is 8Th among OLB, yet he is the youngest by far of the 7 in front of him.  People want to give Luke a pass for a terrible year because of a bad DL, bad coaching, etc.  yet Shaq had an even better year despite those things.  Shaq is not average.  He’s an above average OLB who is only 26 years old.

Pretty sure Shaq is just outside the top 3 paid OLB in mainly 4-3 based defenses, 13th overall.

Not sure how the scheme is relevant.  Heck teams change schemes all the time.  We are a good example of that.  He signed his contract as a 3-4 OLB.

There is no way you can argue he is above average.  That's ludicrous

While I don’t think he’s worth his contract, he was easily above average last season. However, he has not been above average for the majority of his career.

You also have to consider he played next to one of the best MLBs in NFL history.

If you look closer at the linebackers that are paid what Shaq is paid you’ll notice some are on the backend of their contracts, some are actually used as a 3-4 OLB and have a third of the tackles but 4x the sacks, none played next to a player anywhere close to Luke, and you’ll also find they’ll have more than one above average season - even those with <5 seasons.

If Shaq puts up 2 more seasons like last season, by salary and position metrics, he’d be worth his contact.

Based on?  Your opinion?  Stats don’t back up your assumption.

He’s average.

which sadly means he’s all pro compared to the rest of this roster. Dude is just an average starter in the nfl on pretty much every other team.

    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
    • I would say maybe 8 in a tier by themselves and all but 2 where picked in the top of the first allen pat m stroud burrow jackson hurts (maybe) Herbert Stafford
