How are people this ignorant at this point with all the info out there.

the problem is them spreading it to other people. Like coaches, family, all the crew behind the scenes. This isn’t rocket science.

you think Andy Reid should be getting Covid from one of his players? Any of the other older, high risk people that will be interacting with players on a daily basis?

this isn’t even critically thinking how the virus spreads. This is just common sense.

would have guessed higher.   Think Clemson Football had almost 40 cases last month.

There was a rumor players were having "COVID gatherings" (like chicken pox parties) to get it and be done with it.  Not just Clemson, but 'Bama and LSU too.   This was last month.  So there may be something to it since nearly half Clemson's team had already contracted it so early in team activities.  I guess the idea is if 100% of the players had contracted it and recovered by the beginning of the season, where's the problem (in theory)?

NHL is setup very well to start up in 2 weeks. NBA has had more issues but they seem like they’ll give it a go too.

The NHL was smart by doing it in Canada. That way they can get away from the bulk of the idiots in this country and lower the chances of it spreading like wildfire.

The NBA was hyper stupid by not predicting Florida would get eaten up by it. I mean.....we've all been to Florida, right? Great place but filled with Florida Man from end to end.

I would have thought professionals knowing they would be playing and their money depends on playing would be avoiding high risk behaviors. Imagine how it will go when they actually have physical contact with each other daily

You would think they wouldn't smoke weed either or do any nunber of dumb things to jeopardize their careers, but they have.

Considering there is over 2000 players that is about 3.5%.  That is kind of about what I would expect.

this is not applicable.  these tests weren't league tests.  these were players who got tested on their own for whatever reason.  we won't know %'s until there are league wide tests just before training camp.

Yeah, no. We got it under control.

See, I subscribe to the "due" theory of epidemiology. So, like, we just had the single highest number of new cases in the U.S. yesterday, so, you know, it's due to go down. Like, silver lining, yesterday being the worst day in terms of new cases mean that it probably won't get worse. You can't just like, keep going up. That's crazy. It's like, against the laws of gravity and stuff.

So, yeah. Let's football baby!

You have one of those charts for the death rate?

I mean it ain't the 1980s or 1990s NBA....but it is still just a bunch of heavy breathing, sweaty dudes, all hanging all over each other.   Then comes the competitive issue of how you handle COVID in season.   Which is a big one for any team sport.   An a symptomatic Lebron James gets diagnosed?  What does that mean for the team?  How many guys they going to play the next couple games without?  How do you pull that off? Lebron finds out on Monday he got it.  He wasn't social distanced from his team or the other team.  CDC I think recommends 5 days after your last exposure before you even get tested.   So who can play on Thursday? What rules they gonna follow?

the fan issue is the biggest one IMO.   Thousands of people indoors screaming for hours.

If they’re getting tested often and are in a bubble with strict rules none of the blood, sweat and tears shared during the games will matter one bit.

Treat COVID like any injury or sickness. Tough sh*t gotta deal with it. Every team and player is in the same boat it’s not unfair. Is it unfair for a team when their star QB or whatever gets injured? No it’s just reality.

There won’t be any fans at the NBA or NHL games coming up.

which people? The finely tuned athletes? Or all the countless people behind the scenes it takes to make it all work?  I mean the non-athletes really got a choice? Do it or be replaced.   Because then we start talking about people that aren't peak level human athletes or kids.

Everyone. They all have a choice. They can risk themselves (for the large majority it’s a very minimal risk) or choose not to. If the season doesn’t go on at all that choice is made for them. Where’s the issue with giving them the choice and allow those who choose to be involved and do their jobs to do so?

Coaches and family and crew can all make their own choices based on their risk tolerance. They don’t have to interact with them.

If Reid is concerned about getting it he should opt out, or deal with the consequences of putting himself at a little bit higher risk by coaching. That’s his choice to make. There’s no issue with letting him make that choice. Same goes for crew and families.

It doesn’t really matter where it is to be honest, just how well the rules of the “bubble” are held up. NHL players seem to be doing a much better job being responsible than NBA players...
