Would be shocked if any sports continued with a season for the rest of 2020

NHL is setup very well to start up in 2 weeks. NBA has had more issues but they seem like they’ll give it a go too.

You have to remember these are young professional athletes who think they’re invincible (and for all practical purposes, the coronavirus presents significantly less risk to them than even suiting up for 1 game does...). Most of these guys are living their life much the same as before and aren’t concerned in the least bit about getting it. I’m sure there are a lot who prefer to get it now and get it over with before the season than to have to miss 3 weeks quarantining once play starts up again. I don’t see why anyone thinks players getting it now is a big concern.

if MLB had a 16 game schedule it would be the easiest to pull off.  Given it is naturally social distance game.  The constant travel and game volume make it so tough to pull off.

NASCAR works.  Golf would work.  That's about it.

Don't see how football or basketball can work.

Why wouldn’t the NBA or NHL be able to work? What specifically would cause it to need to shutdown?

just highlights how contagious and active COVID currently is

and how football happens in large part thanks to countless people....that aren't finely tuned athletes.

If they want to choose to take the risks what is the problem?

I mean it ain't the 1980s or 1990s NBA....but it is still just a bunch of heavy breathing, sweaty dudes, all hanging all over each other.   Then comes the competitive issue of how you handle COVID in season.   Which is a big one for any team sport.   An a symptomatic Lebron James gets diagnosed?  What does that mean for the team?  How many guys they going to play the next couple games without?  How do you pull that off? Lebron finds out on Monday he got it.  He wasn't social distanced from his team or the other team.  CDC I think recommends 5 days after your last exposure before you even get tested.   So who can play on Thursday? What rules they gonna follow?

the fan issue is the biggest one IMO.   Thousands of people indoors screaming for hours.

which people? The finely tuned athletes? Or all the countless people behind the scenes it takes to make it all work?  I mean the non-athletes really got a choice? Do it or be replaced.   Because then we start talking about people that aren't peak level human athletes or kids.

I personally think college football is done.  Just easier for them to slow walk than say it.

I think the NFL is close to being done too.   I'm sure there are a lot of players who frankly don't care and would just play.  But that isn't everyone nor is it frankly an example they can put out there.  Think they all just wishing for a miracle of it largely going away.  All comes down to how can you pull off playing and actually follow a protocol when people get COVID.   If you follow the guidelines on COVID....it will just impact who can suit up IMO too greatly.   Just my 2 cents.

would have guessed higher.   Think Clemson Football had almost 40 cases last month.

I would have thought professionals knowing they would be playing and their money depends on playing would be avoiding high risk behaviors. Imagine how it will go when they actually have physical contact with each other daily

How are people this ignorant at this point with all the info out there.

the problem is them spreading it to other people. Like coaches, family, all the crew behind the scenes. This isn’t rocket science.

you think Andy Reid should be getting Covid from one of his players? Any of the other older, high risk people that will be interacting with players on a daily basis?

this isn’t even critically thinking how the virus spreads. This is just common sense.

well, I mean, I know several people that have gotten COVID....and I wouldn't describe them as living high risk lifestyles.  They basically went to office jobs (with COVID safety measures in place), home and the grocery store.   Only real interaction was small family bubbles. The occasional take out joint.  I know one person that was nearly 100% quarantined and got it from a healthcare professional.

COVID is crazy contagious.  We can't forget that.

but yeah, no doubt a lot of people are getting it because of risky behavior.  I'm sure that does apply to a lot of them.  Almost everyone I know under 40 that got it was living a pretty "normal" personal life.
