SB Nation The Panthers Collapse

To this day I think that getting rid of the tag on Josh Norman was the step to the downfall of this franchise. We had to overcompensate in the draft and that failed, which kept us from addressing actual needs. Total unforced error that turned a position we were set for the year at into one that was complete garbage.

Sure calls didn’t didn’t go our way, kicks missed, fumbles not recovered...

The biggest thing that single handedly gave the team no chance was Ron and the coaching staff’s inability to adjust and be creative going in. As the Bronco players from SB50 pointed out, Ron planned a game like he had any other that season. No surprises and no changes.

Then we all watched as Remmers got absolutely destroyed and Ron absolutely refusing to do anything about it, the entire game. Which shocked the Broncos defense. Hell I was shocked after half time basically watching the first half replayed by the Panthers. Who does that?

Ron got so comfortable with Cam taking over games, he literally didn’t do poo to help the team. It was painfully obvious. You could tell Cam and the team literally had to fight tooth and nail that whole entire season against god awful predictable game calling time and time again, game after game.

Ron should have been gone after 2016, and none of these vets on their way downhill that whined for more money should have been retained. When Oher went down they should have immediately brought someone in. Yet here we are 4 years later Ron finally gone, still no LT...STILL paying whiny vets who haven’t contributed in years or not even on the team and off to a late start per usual.

It can't be said enough: The ONLY reason we don't have a ring is that we had a clown for a coach and a clown OC. When the other team's players are literally laughing in delight at your total lack of tactical acumen, the problem is coaching. Gettleman sucked as well, but not like that.

We will know soon enough about Ron. Just like we found out with John Fox after he left, I suspect you will see Ron prove to be a coach that the game simply passed by.

i think my favorite ron failure of that game was playing the secondary back until the 4th quarter.

manning couldn't throw past twenty yards, luke murdered their best receiver on the field in the first quarter, and still the panthers just hunkered back, trying to keep the ball in front of them.

it let 83 year old peyton manning just dink and dunk, hold on to the ball and play keep away, and let the broncos defense stay fresh

fourth quarter? back to back 3 and outs once the panthers defense got aggressive

I think Oher’s injury was really the event that started the collapse. We had ignored LT since pushing out Gross. Finally we rolled the dice and landed a good LT. His injury hurt immediately and then forced us to find a replacement. We know how that went. Bad contract on a bad player that really set us back. We followed that up with hanging on to TD and Olsen too long. Switched to a 3-4 when you have a HOF caliber middle LB???  Then the Cam injuries obviously sealed the deal.

new owner. New coach. New faces. The GM will be the last domino to fall and then it will be a completely new era.

100% agree. 2015 showed what a healthy Cam could do with a good line. The seasons that followed featured Carolina upgrading from Remmers, Oher getting injured and having to retire, Norwell getting traded, Ryan Khalil getting injured, then retiring, DG putting all of his eggs into the Matt Khalil basket, which turned out to be a total fugup. Meanwhile Cam continuously gets his ass kicked until now no one has a clue if he can perform again at a high level.

That 2016 draft was hot garbage. Bradberry was a solid starter, and Butler was, at best, decent backup. But everyone else was straight up trash. It's also worth noting that our best free agency move that off season was probably re-signing Kyle Love, a career backup.

Let me add this to the list of videos I will not be watching.

Agreed. So many seem to have such a hard on for content that shits on our franchise and team in one way or another. All of them are fake ass fans.

Its one thing to discuss issues with the team. Its totally different to literally wallow in it. A lot of these blokes are like kids wearing flannel in the 1990s, cutting themselves and listening to Nirvana having fantasy that they are total and utter poo and they actually enjoy feeling and thinking as such.

Its ironic how not so long ago people bragged that Tepper was going to bring change, fools made alt accounts about his chest hair, his brass balls. You all wanted change, and now eat it.
