How good will our Defensive Ends be?

I am going to disagree here. The NFL is dominated by the RPO offense. A lot of DEs are losing their jobs or falling out of the league due to lack of recognition and discipline at this position. The DE has a pretty decent load of work when it comes to reading the tackle, guard, and rb movement before even thinking about pushing the qb.

That’s exactly my point. None of these have to deal with a defensive playbook. I can show you the 5 pages of fronts Kyle Shanahan’s QB and linemen have to identify defensive fronts. A defensive end only has to know if he has a 2 or 3 man surface and any front/stunt adjustment.

In a realistic world, maybe one of the them turns out above average, most likely Burns.

Optimism is nice but history tells us otherwise.  2nd round DEs usually struggle their first year, even 1st round ones do, and all of the other guys you are asked them to play better than they have at any point in their career.

There was a prime Jason Peter?  I thought the hookers and drugs saw his prime because I don't remember seeing it on the football field.

That's why it's the bottom of the scale. Andto think that Vonnie Holliday was the local kid...

In all seriousness though kudos to Jason for seemingly pulling his life together off the field. Wasted pick but the guy had serious issues that needed attention.

Fair assessment.  I do like the overall potential even though I don't think it will translate as much this year as in future years.

We have 4 guys that I think can be solid to really good in Burns, YGM, Obada, and Weatherly

I am also intrigued on how we use Miller and Haynes.  Both those guys have potential as pass rushers, just need to figure out how to deploy.  I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't used some as more of a true linebacker.

I look at this year as I would rather have a bunch of young guys making mistakes and getting better than the bunch of overpaid underperformers we had last year.

Not good.

We are going up against 3 HOF QB's in our division that are all accurate, smart, and know how to sniff out what the DE's are going to be doing...they also get the ball out in fractions of seconds.  If KK comes back to his prime (highly unlikely) you may see some production, if not, those Sundays are going to be long.

If we win a division game this season, I'll be shocked, barring injuries.

So basically you are hoping that YGM is the rare exception of 2nd round DEs that play above average their rookie season, and you are hoping that Obada and Weatherly have career years.

That's a lot of hoping.  I hope you are right.
