Would they also be in rough shape if either got influenza, pneumonia, or bronchitis?

There are vaccines for the flu and for pneumonia.  Not 100% perfect but at least it make the odds more  favorable.  They would have a lot better chance of a positive outcome than the Covid virus at this point.

Glad your friend recovered. Scary stuff.

I don't think you know how to use Google. The source of the original quote should really be all that you need, TBH.

I just think you're being a whiny little Karen who doesn't want to be wrong but what the hell let's debate coconut vs Shark deaths for five pages. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This person actually did the research and found that 20 deaths a year. Still more than sharks. Until you can give me anything more accurate you're wrong Karen.

I mean, do you really want me to respond to something that obviously stupid?

But, thanks for proving that your "sources" are hot garbage.

Convid just added to the long list of things dangerous for at-risk people. Im not anti-vaccine, but facts are vaccines has killed in rare cases. Its a risk, just about everything is a give and take. In fixing a problem if you strengthen this it weakens that. Those at-risk people drive/ride to the doctors offices. That itself is very dangerous, convid actually lowered the automobiles deaths. Plus for a short period made the air quality better, which helped people with lung problems. Convid continues to prove its a vastly complex problem and like I stated to fix parts of it, that act weaken other parts.

At the end of the day, COVID is just a strong flu.  We are going crazy right now because baby boomers make up a large part of the population and also have a large part of the money.  I know, I know.... you're ((family member or person you know)) is at risk.  Do you speak out the same when people go around with the flu?  Media overplayed their hand on this one.

The only reason we’re not banished to our homes is because this is deadliest in the elderly.

If this impacted kids the same as it does 80 year olds, the world would be 100% shut down indefinitely.

The parents around here know what I’m talking about.

Society doesn’t care about old people so we’re ok calling it ‘just the flu’.

No, I don’t speak out about people walking around with the flu, but I do when they have a ‘stronger version of the flu’. Cause, Covid kills 10x more than ‘just the flu’.

... if we are to believe the death numbers which look made up to a high degree considering daily deaths is lower now than at the beginning.

Bud, there is an entire thread on this topic. Check it out. The points you are bringing up were discussed months ago. There are a few docs and other Med professions with first hand experience on this board who will tell you your conspiracy theories are full of crap.

In short though, yes there are things that kill more than Covid BUT they’re not contagious, they don’t have the ability the spread exponentially, and (like Covid) we do everything in our power to prevent those deaths too. No one ignores cancer, heart disease, and car accidents.

You do realize that the "highly manipulated death count" is the same way they calculate all those flu deaths, right?

I am also in the corner of "over reaction and media hysteria are making this much worse" but the coronavirus death counts aren't being manipulated worldwide. Even the amounts that might be cooked in isolated cases they aren't going to amount to much in the overall picture.

Yeah, it's far less deadly than some typical diseases and illnesses we deal with but that doesn't make it an invalid concern.

To me, the coronavirus sort of mirrors the AIDS scare initially. A lot of the initial reactions, the complete lack of information and people acting irrationally is familiar. That's actually why I always call it "CoronAIDS." But, in the end AIDS infected over 70 million people and killed over 30 million(to date). If the virus death rate holds up, every person on the planet getting it would be tens of millions of deaths. So you can't exactly throw it all out as a hysteria and this spreads in a way that makes it run rampant in a short period of time.

People just need to be reasonable and they can limit the spread. That's what all these countermeasures are about, just simply slowing the march through the population. When people willfully ignore it or treat it as a hoax, it's just another opportunity for it to spread like wild fire. Trust me, I literally watched this happen at my current place of work.
