Rosenthal: Carolina surprise offenseRo

Our offense will be top 10. Our D, barring some big surprises from rookies or other young players we have, will be bottom 5 and will outweigh the success on offense. Should be interesting however it plays out. Glad to see the team coached by someone much more interesting than Fox/Rivera anyways.

If our offense is top 10, our D will be just good enough to keep us in games.

Yeah, a 7-9 season is so much more important than securing a franchise QB

Nobody has been able to explain how to get a team of 53 grown competitive men playing at the highest level of competition with their livelihood on the line in an extremely violent game to buy into a “rebuilding” *cough* TANK *cough* period where you basically throw in the towel for a couple seasons while you accumulate assets so that maybe you can compete in 3 or 4 seasons.

We’ll see. I’m not so confident in that side of the ball. We had the 2nd worst defense last year and that was with guys like Luke, McCoy, Bradberry, etc. that are gone now. Could come down to coaching and Snow is not very awe inspiring...

Rosenthal was asked which teams offense would be surprisingly good this year and give Carolina the title with top ten status.  Said this will be Bridgewater's "Alex Smith" moment.  Makes some really good points.

Why is being compared to Alex Smith a positive and/or exciting thing? Dude went an entire season without throwing a TD pass to a WR... the same as Clausen in that 2010 offense. Living in KC I got to see the Alex Smith years up close and he's a guy who doesn't make many mistakes but also won't elevate the team - it's no coincidence that the Chiefs needed Mahimes (who is elite in his own right) to get over the hump with the same coaching and general roster as Smith.

With that said I also can't undersell the importance of the Spagnuolo hire. Alex Smith never had that benefit and with a competent defense perhaps he wins something with the Chiefs, but there's no question that Mahomes is the key ingredient there.

I just don't quite understand the people who are discounting Teddy out of hand. When he has played, he has won!

Experience has taught me that hype/success in college is not guaranteed to translate to the NFL. Teddy has won in the NFL! That should stand for something! I realize that it doesn't mean anything to everyone---because many people always get enamored with the next big thing---but actually winning in the NFL is more important than a paper champion who has yet to play a pro game.

I'm excited to see our Mahomes replace our Smith at some point, hopefully sooner than later.

I'm just happy to see football at all this year but the excitement left the the room for now. We are not a good team and we need time for coaches and players to gain much needed experience ( and our owner has some tough lessons to learn between the difference in wanting to win and actually winning ).

Offense will likely be middle of the pack. D will be at or near the bottom of the league. End result will he 3-4 wins.

Actually, the end result will be no season played.

Or the offense will be top 10 and defense middle of the pack with an end result of 9-7.  We really have no clue what will happen.

    • Rewatching the 3rd period, on the go ahead, Blake kinda coasts by the goal until one guy dives and one guy slides too far, and the goalie is exposed.  On KK goal, Igor completely thought it was a pass. Even looking to his right instead of down. Slowest goal ever.
    • Cooper Rush is a veteran backup, isn't he?  He's not comparable to BY... And anyway, Washington has a pretty meh defense this year. Still a good game. HOU, well, that was on 55 attempts, lol.  Couple of decent games from him. We'll get to see him soon lol
