I bet Reid coaches through this contract and barring injuries they win at least 2-3 more Super Bowls. If it’s not based on percentage of the cap this is a very smart deal for the Chiefs. Even if it’s like $40M/yr which seems crazy right now, in 5 years that’ll be peanuts and he’ll still have 5 more cheap years left.

Just a trip down memory lane.  In March of 2001 Drew Bledsoe signed a 10 year deal with the Patriots.  By April of 2002 he was no longer the Patriots starting QB and was shipped off to Buffalo.

If so and the Chiefs can keep a core of players around him, the KC may be the new juggernaut in the AFC for the foreseeable future.

This is the key. If he doesn't, this contract will really bite them in the ass.

This is big risk, big potential reward though. The way QB contracts have been increasing, his yearly average and cap hits very well may look like a bargain in a few years.

It's % based of the cap. This is what will help keep the chiefs competitive for years. All qb's need to do this.

I'm sure the Chiefs will also take out a HUGE insurance policy on this contract in case of injury.

Surely a % of the cap type deal, and honestly this is the way QB contracts have needed to go in general so it's not a constant 1 up across the league.
