Gettleman doesnt get enough heat for making byron bell and nate chandler the starting fuging tackles in 2014. That's when cam first started to really get hurt.

Bell could at least play some RT but god damn how do we not replace Gross?

She left out one important detail: Cam was not old enough to get the calls.
I wonder if those stats that state that Cam is the most hit QB since he came into the league accounts for hits the refs ignored.

Bingo. We all have been saying this since the days of Nate fuggin Chandler and Byron fugging Bell.

But every draft season 90% of this board talks themselves out of spending a first round pick on a OL.  Everyone becomes enamored with "sexy" picks.

I blame the system as much as the personnel.  There are reasons that certain teams and QBs tend have good OL.  The Patriots, especially have done a great job of devaluing the OL.  There is a reason they let good O-linemen walk in free agency.

I always felt like RR's formula for winning was to play great defense, and then let Cam carry us to 21 points.  Cam's athletic ability was a crutch for this coaching staff and front office.  To get those 21 points he didn't need great personnel around him, or a great offensive system.  Its 3rd and 4 and you call a QB draw, that's pretty simple.  He was probably the best "short yardage" back in the league, when you factor in the favorable blocking numbers of a QB running with the ball.

If anything I always felt like this staff didn't want Cam to reach his potential.  They were more worried about limiting his deficiencies (perceived or real).  Look at the types of passes he use to throw, there were definitely certain routes they felt more comfortable with him throwing.

I'm actually happy for him going to the Pats, they have a reputation for getting the most out of their players.  If Cam is healthy it should tell us a lot about RR and his staff and also Cam.

As a player all you can ask for a situation that allows you to be the best you can be, and I'm not convinced Cam has had that in his career, maybe he does now.

Agreed.

Tepper will have egg on his face soon enough.

based on what exactly?  Would you have extended Cam at market value going into this offseason?  Most people wouldn't, I can't really blame Tepper for that.  What happened next though, I probably would have handled differently.

I think everyone (you, me, front office, Cam) assumed that Cam would have had a trade market, which he didn't not.  Looking back we could have slow played the situation and Cam probably would have played out the deal on his last year of his contract.

Tepper probably had final say on whether or not to extend Cam, but what follows next I put more on the GM and the coaches.  Its the GMs job to know the market, and then I think the coaches fell in love with Teddy.

Here is how it should have gone:

Cam wants an extension.  Very understandable

Team doesn't want to give him an extension.  Very understandable

Cam isn't happy.  Very understandable

Cam and/or team looks for trade.  Very understandable

Team decides to roll with Grier and look to draft a top 3 QB next year.  Very understandable

No trade market for Cam materializes.  Surprising to everyone.  Cam decides to play on the last year of his deal.

Cost the team roughly $20m to see if a former league MVP can return to form, instead of spending $60m and a two draft picks (comp you lost this year for singing TB, and the comp you would have got for letting Cam leave a year later) to see if a player could become a better player than he ever has been?

Valid points. I think Tepper will have egg on his face because I believe that Cam will make a comeback. None of us know if he will or not, but at least the Patriots will give him a chance to prove it.  Also, I just don't believe you replace a player like Cam Newton with Teddy Bridgewater. No knock on Teddy, he just doesn't move the needle for me.

If Cam makes a comeback, and the Panthers flounder, yes.

If Rhule puts together a winning program, Tepper will be redeemed, and it won't matter what Cam does.

Just so I can make sure I'm right with everything:

So we're all now hating the Panthers, who they were, who they are, who they will be and everything the organization has stood for?

Just checking.

But y'all are going to keep tuning in to watch the games, right?

Jourdan told the truth now that she is gone to the Rams

ive said it all along and she did too more diplomatically when here

i have lost a lot of respect for Tepper and I don’t think I can get it back enough to pay to watch the team on Sundays.

i paid my invoice in full believing Cam would return.
funny how right after invoices were due Cam gets cut

kinda like how the people who lost their seats, though work started on removing those seats directly after season’s end, weren’t told until invoices were mailed

Tepper has the class of a fart in a church during a funeral
