Ron says don't bet against Cam Newton

Just saying, Cam got vet min. Haskins there or not, circumstances absolutely allowed for the Skins to sign him if Ron wanted him. He didn’t. It’s plain to see.

Only other team who even contacted Cam (and didn’t offer him a contract) was the Browns. The entire league seems to agree that Cam has nothing left. Pats took a chance but it’s unlikely it’ll work out well for them. Low risk because of the money so certainly worth it in their eyes but Cam just isn’t anywhere near the same player he once was. His throwing shoulder is shot. I love the guy, loved him as a player here when he was healthy, but it’s time to move on.

The entire league said that about Drew Brees too, BTW.

That’s not true and it’s a terrible comparison. Brees had multiple teams interested and multiple offers and got $10M guaranteed his first year from the Aints. As a percentage of the salary cap then compared to Cam’s deal now as a percentage of the salary cap, what Brees got offered was astronomically larger. And there’s a reason for that. Brees had played at a very high level the 2 years before FA and the concern was an injury sustained in the last game the year before. There was never a point after that injury where his play on the field was noticeably impacted by the injury. Cam, on the other hand, has not been the same since initially injuring his shoulder in 2016 and has gotten even worse and worse on the field the last two years while missing 16 games. There was much more reason to think Brees would bounce back than Cam.

Lol. Oh really? A "few teams."

You mean the Saints, who offered a one year deal with a second year option? The other team with serious interest, the Dolphins ended up passing because they thought he would never recover from the injury. Even the deal the Chargers offered BEFORE the injury was a heavily incentive laden contract. It has been reported in multiple outlets how serious that shoulder injury was for Brees.

But no......what a terrible comparison because their one year deals were for less percentage of the cap. Riiiight.

He won't bet on Cam either.  Did Washington offer Cam a 1-year, vet minimum deal?  Why not?

Could be because the owner demanded they choose Haskins because his son went to HS with him. Made it clear it was HIS choice. And the last coach was fired for not going along with that plan.

But I’m sure that had nothing to do with it.

Ron is being forced to go with Haskins by a meddling owner. It was probably a condition of taking the job. If Haskins is officially The Guy, you can't possibly sign a better, more experienced QB - that's a locker room nightmare.

I hate defending Ron, who's a very poor coach, but I genuinely believe he would've made the smart move and signed Cam if he could have. This is a Snyder thing. Of course, it's on Ron, too - forever a patsy for sh*theel owners.

I'm not betting against Cam. I am, however, betting that Ron's upcoming 3 year tenure with Washington will yield a combined maximum of 15 wins.

I think the only way you lose that bet is if Chase Young turns out to be a Julius Peppers caliber player or they get Trevor Lawrence/another top QB prospect.

That organization is such an inept dump.
