Question regarding Cam and the media

My premise has long been that sports media coverage is biased in favor of large media market teams in that sports media spends more time covering them than smaller market teams, unless said smaller market team has a transcendent star player like Newton. I don't know if the media is covering Cam more favorably now, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts now that he's gone we'll get less national media coverage. With Kuechly retired, if it weren't for CMC, they would probably barely notice us this coming season. Scratch that, Kuechly was great, but largely modest, quiet, unflashy and soft spoken off the field. CMC is at least dating a model, so that gives them something.

Ever notice that even when the Cowboys suck, the media talks about them CONSTANTLY?

Same for the Giants.

Bears.

When Green Bay stops having a top flight qb under center, you'll never hear about them again.

Yeah. I just assumed everyone knew they did this and understood that. Just another example of why journalism sucks.

Yes, I've noticed the shift as well. I'm honestly pretty amazed by it. There are still a few Negative Nancy's and Downer Dan's out there, but overall it's been positive. It was basically "Cam Day" on the sports shows all day yesterday.

Well it's also the only "real" news about America's Favorite Pastime(suck it baseball people, you know I am right) they have had in a while.

To be fair there really isn’t much else to chat about right now when it comes to sports due to covid. I think you take covid out of the picture, the media would be a bit different.

they’ll dissipate when actual football starts and pats begin to play mundane football. Should be around week 3 or 4 the media will move on.

That’s why as a small market it was important to put our arms around Cam and embrace him with all we have, and demand the same from our local media. Unfortunately we failed severely in that aspect and allow the media to shape the perception.

Which is why we never deserved Cam in the first place.

I've also seen some Debbie Downers

This.

And media love to hype (and then tear people down).

Cam hasn't played healthy in a couple years, has been unemployed with seemingly little or no interest from anyone and now that he signed with New England, the Pats are suddenly the AFC East favorites again and Cam has 9th best odds of being the MVP.

Media bias? Ya think?

Green Bay has an unusually large fan base and an impressively rich history.

I agree with your post, I just find Green Bay to be the main exemption to it...

...Now the Saints, Falcons and Bucs... THOSE are your teams that you will never hear about when they don't have solid quarterbacks.

Green Bay is located in a small market but the actual market for the team is huge as they have a strong national following.  They are a huge ratings draw which is a good reason why the NFL artificially props them up with favorable calls.

Seems the same to me. More BS. Just like all sport media. They’ll come back around if he does poorly and vice versa

Saying whether cam is healthy or not isn’t a positive vs negative thing like some of you oddly believe

some people on here still haven’t figured out how media works lol the irony is these people watch it the most and it influences them the most sad

The Panthers have helped turn Cam into a sympathetic figure, but the big market bias is real. Same thing happened when Kemba Walker left. When the conversation about "tier one" point guards was had, somehow his name never came up.  Until the day he became a Celtic.
