Saints game plan for steve smith

I just feel sorry for the Saints DBs. Now they really have to live up to GW words. I wonder if Williams is so cocky to put Smith one on one. I would just love that. Really this could be a good game for Jarrett also. Nothing better then a Big WR to push around CBs.

That's not cocky, that would be foolish. Even with Delhomme having a REALLY bad year, SS can get so much seperation, so quickly that he can make Delhomme look good. 1-1 coverage is just not going to happen.

Which is why I would like to see us run out of 3 WR sets more often. It would open the field and force the D to take a man out of the box or single up on SS. Either way it would work in our advantage. Alas, we are a power run team and it works so I'm not going to complain.

They would still double cover Smith. No other WR has proven that he can make the D pay for Doubling Smith.

Greg Williams is obviously being sarcastic. But because it is written its harder to see it. He spoke the whole time praising Smith. And made a little joke at then end. If you want to be picky, you could say it still was a tad in nbad taste. But lets not blow it way out of porportion.

This is somewhat similar to earlier in the season when smith made that joke to delhomme on the bench about being a bad quarterback. It was a joke that the press took way out of hand.

The fact is we dont know if Williams was joking our not. I mean is everyone just joking when they talk bad about another player? The Smith comment to Jake was really wrong also. Still Smiths Jakes teammate and not on another team.

If we don't know then it makes little since to crucify and insult the guy for ten pages.

Greg williams isnt stupid, I seirously doubt he would make a extremely rude comment, a week before a game, knowing how talented he is and how much he thrives off it. Espcically right to a reporter knowing it will get out.

He apparently isn't too bright because he did make the comment. However, I do agree with you that he meant it in jest to some degree. How the NFL see's it will be an entirely different matter, even if he was joking it was a dumb thing to say.

Funny I dont remember Steve saying to Jake, Hey I wanna cause bodily harm to you, just to get you out of the game for a little while.

i personally don't think the comments were serious, anyone in the NFL should realize how awful injuries are and would likely not want that to happen to their own players.

but even if the comments weren't serious, it's not appropriate to say things like that, if you can't say 'the f word', surely you can't talk about trying to injure other players to gain an advantage.

Thats not the point I was making. What Im saying is smith said somthing that was rude, if taken literally. The press took it as such and make a big deal out of it, even though it was obviously sarcastic.

Same situation here, a tad more over the line, but no reason to freak out.

I think the more important thing is this....regardless of whether or not the coach has any class or if he was just joking, Smith is probably going to hurt someone on the field over this. I envision Greer being hauled off after one of those patanted Smitty stiff arms bounces him off the ground like a basketball. In all honesty, the best way to demoralize Smith is to not talk about him at all. When another coach says something about him to the media, it'll pump his ego up and at that point your just asking for trouble.

And for some reason, he seems to think that he only has to worry about Smith...

Doesn't really matter. Talk is cheap. and if anything, it sounds like a compliment. Steve Smith doesn't need any extra boosts going into a game. Hes already passionate.

Any time anyone has said something about smith in the media, he has turned it up a notch. Saying the only way to stop him is to hurt him is bound to increase that even more.
