Panthers vs Saints: Who Will Win & Why?

Kicks

Recommended Posts

Who do you seriously think will win between the Panthers and the Saints, and why? Give your VALID reasons.

I've yet to see anything from this forum except 'The panthers will win because I hate the Saints' or 'The Panthers will win because the Saints have a losing history' (and I've cleaned up those quotes!).

So, serious discussion, please. After all, that was my hope and intention for even coming here in the first place.

Saints:

1. Better QB

2. We are missing our fullbacks

3. Jake is still in his funk

4. They know they haven't beaten us in the dome since 2001.

We are gonna get pasted.

1. I'll agree with you here. Only a few teams can really contest who has a better QB. Brees is good not only because of his ability and dedication to study his oppenent, he also has a good OL, backs, and receivers that make him look good. Archie manning was a good QB, but liked like poo because the rest of the team stunk.

2. I teach Taekwondo. I always tell my students that you have to learn to fight with all your weapons, and from both right and left sides. If your FBs are out I'm sure your coach will use his other weapons, but he still has to game plan to use them to attack the Saint's weaknesses.

3. Has he ever slumped before? Is he due to come out of it? Do you think he might pick up his game since he's playing his old team? I tell ya what...I really liked him when he was here and was upset when we let him go.

4. I don't like using history to determine a current team. I don't know if anyone on the current Saints team was on the team in 2001 and many weren't even in the league. When people say that the Saints have a losing history it makes me wonder how smart this folks are. The 2009 Saints is not the 1970's, 80's 90's etc Saints. Heck, most these players were just starting Little League when the Saints were at their worst, if even that!

Panthers win

1) We run the ball better, if Turner can get 150 we can get 200 easy.

2) Our defense has been steadily improving, while Saints have been declining a little bit.

3) Saints as a team are getting sloppy, last 3 games they had 8 turnovers, our defense just had a great game vs kurt warner, brees needs to be careful.

4) Jake Delhomme will have the same role he had last week, and Steve Smith will trump the Saints corner for a TD.

5) Peppers. nuff said

Give me the Saints by 10-14 points. The 2 d's will show up in the first half, but it will turn into a 2nd half shootout. The Panthers simply don't have the O to keep up. I do however think that Carolina covers the spread of 12-13.

I don't believe the Panthers will come out and dominate the Saints. But, if our defense continues to improve like it has and our run game isn't hampered by our fullback injuries, I'm certain we can play limit the possessions the Saints have and keep it close.

Our key is pressuring Brees with our front four and playing good coverage with the LBs and DBs. With our suddenly deep D-line, I think it may be possible. Look for Peppers or one of our other DEs to have a good day.

Without Hoover, Fiametta, and Rosario, our top 3 fullback options, I concerned about how well we will run the ball. I'm certain we will have more than 100 yards because we will be able to exploit blitz and we have shown we can run on 8 and 9 man boxes.

Finally, what concerns me the most, is our pass offense versus the Saints' secondary. Their secondary has been aggressive and have looked like superstars because of the blitzes and pressure on opposing QBs. I think when we do pass, look for safe, short throws and yards after catch. Don't look for anything downfield because we want to minimize turnovers.

Who can run the ball better may be debatable, but you're 100% correct that our D had 'declined'. I was totally pissed at our defense (if you want to call it that) against the Fail-cons.

I think the Saints overall this season are in the positive side of the turnovers. Panthers gotta watch out if they play the ball. Brees can put the ball where only the receiver can catch it, and our boys do have a talent for yards after the catch. Fumbles is another story. argggh!

I have a feeling that we'll be pressuring Delhomme to make sure he doesn't gain confidence and start to come out his slump. That is going to take a physical game on our part to play a mental game on Jake.

Padre, all due respect; when we are 7-0 we can't be pissed at anything :)

I do give the edge in the running game to the Panthers; but that literally is the only edge they have. It won't be enough in the end.
