Which retired Panther could help this years team the most

Is Gross really the best olineman in Panthers history? Wasn’t there some dude that went to the Eagles? I was going to say the top olineman in history and Gross is alright though overrated by fans but damn that’s sad if as bad as our oline has always been and is now we can’t even chose a retired Oline player over someone else

so I guess I’ll say luke

Not a "need" position at the moment but you can't measure someone with the fight and grit that Smith had.

IMO, still an all-time best WR. Who packed the pound-for-pound punch that Smitty did?

Imagine if he had Rice’s size or even Moss’. The guy is definitely the best pound for pound WR the NFL has ever seen.

You gotta consider a guy who’d also be a good locker room presence and a stable player in the film room and among his fellow position players. Oh and he needs to be an all-pro level player. Jordan Gross is the easy choice. Seeing CMC run behind him would be badass. Smith’s not a bad pick, but he would take away catches from Moore — not to mention how much he’d try to psychologically destroy him because he’s the first WR we’ve had since Smith with that level of big-play potential.

He wasn’t here long but would Peanut count?

Position of need, but more importantly he was one of the better locker room leaders we’ve had, which I think would pay more dividends in our young defensive group than anything.

if we got Peanut in his prime (2011, 2012), then hell yeah. According to OP, he meets all the criteria, retired a Panther, and, in his prime would improve our team most by addressing our biggest need.

At this day with their current age? Luke hands down. Gamble second

I believe the assumption here is that they are "prime" players we are talking about.

Otherwise there wouldn't be so many mentions of a player who is deceased.

And, as good as Luke is/was, he isn't close to our biggest need. Frankly, his impact would probably be significantly lessened(like it was last season) by our lack of depth on the DL.

    • This is factually incorrect. He was a two time Pro Bowler with the Rams and in fact statistically he was better with the Rams in his best season there than he has been with the Lions(could change with this season). Some of his per game stats have creeped into being marginally better with the Lions but there have not been dramatic differences in his play, actually. The biggest reason that McVay and he ended up splitting was McVay didn't think he could win a title with Goff. TBH.....so far he was 100% correct. Stafford almost immediately won them a SB and Goff in a historic run was about 70% of the reason the Lions faltered in the NFC championship game. He missed critical throws all over the first half and throughout the second half that he normally wouldn't. He choked. So, until Goff actually does win a SB...McVay has been right.
    • they have the best defense they've had in a long time...probably the best in the reid/mahommes era.  but i think they are probably the most beatable they've been in a while as well. record doesn't exactly bear that out, but they just don't look as strong on offense as they usually do. lots of reasons for that, like trying to build chemistry with newer receivers, but right now they just aren't as frightening as they typically are. i mean they'll probably win tomorrow, but i don't see them as the strongest team in the AFC right now.
    • He will likely remain unsigned the remainder of this season(barring someone being in a pure QB panic AND making poor decisions) largely due to the cost. I do think he will get multiple offers to be a backup QB and perhaps a couple to potentially start this offseason.  I will continue to beat the same horse over and over.....he should go to a successful team with an established starter. If I were him, go to somewhere like SF, LAR, etc. Somewhere with a successful QB coach and brilliant offensive mind and ALSO a set situation at QB. Ride the pine and adjust for a year or two. Chill and be around better culture. I would suggest the same for Bryce but he will be limited to wherever we can trade him.
