Making a point that we can’t just rely on the moderate Democratic Party doing the right thing and voting for them. Because they haven’t. Reforms haven’t worked.

Minneapolis is going to be a great test case as they’re defunding/dismantling the police and ending police contracts with schools. So police aren’t terrorizing impoverished communities with impunity. Reallocating money to community based programs that go to the root cause of crime and unequal access. Which helps get to the root cause of racial profiling/discrimination. Stopping police activities that social workers should be doing.  Stopping mass incarceration that specifically targets African Americans and leaves them as 2nd class citizens from petty nonviolent crimes that are a product of poverty. Vast majority of people don’t sell drugs or steal if they have equal access and opportunities.  People with drug problems need mental health help, not prison. These people in turn do not get to vote. These people do not get equal access to jobs, healthcare, etc. It has created a perpetual caste system in America. We should all be ashamed in being complicit in this.

Now this doesn’t mean removing the police all together. Racism can’t be abolished individually.  But it has no business in state or federal governments. We pay for their jobs. There is a place for a down scaled police force in towns/cities that are well-trained and educated.  Extensive Background checks, training, psych, empathy evals. These officers should be highly educated and have real world experience with impoverished communities. Either they’re from those communities or they have done work in those communities. It should be a prerequisite. Over time you will see crime drop dramatically when we shift focus to the root causes instead of continuing  oppression. I’m for highly compensating these types of officers. They should be the best of the best among us.  I am down for other things that my dumbass can’t comprehend right now as long as it makes sense and is the best at attacking this.

These riots and protests have woken SOME politicians the fug up. Not a vote.  The police have been infiltrated by racists and power hungry individuals that keep the system in place. And they are a fraternity. They don’t turn on each other. I’m the son of a cop. I know this. Dismantle them precinct by precinct.  Get the federal government involved. This won’t happen overnight but if there is not a gigantic shift in the way we operate in America there will continue to be protests and riots. Don’t care how much this costs when we throw billions at corporate bailouts that CEO’s pocket. It’s bullshit. We cannot let another generation of kids go through this system.

Real and independent oversight has never really existed for the police. That is how they have been able to get away with this poo for decades. If you file a complaint against an officer, guess who investigates it? Other cops. Guess what they decide in almost every case?
