The flag and anthem does not represent the military.  It represents the country as a whole, including the military.  He was protesting social injustice, not just police brutality.  Social injustice is an issue that affects the entire country, so it was appropriate to protest at this time.  He was not the first to protest during the National Anthem, and he wont be the last. The only reason people believed it was against the military is because a certain president claimed that it was.

I did not say the flag "represents" the military.  I said it was "about" the military and the battle we were fighting at that time (read the words). And furthermore you cannot tell me or anyone else what it "represents" as that it totally up to interpretation. Example: To some folks the confederate flag represents history and pride of the southern culture. To others it represents slavery and oppression. Both are correct to each respective party but not the other.

But I invite you. Next time you are at the stadium and the anthem is played, ignore the flags of the various military branches, mia/pow and the jet flyovers.

Politics are a religion. Everyone has their principles and their God. It’s all the same.

America's God is money. It's funny that people like to equate the fact that God being on our money is supporting Christianity. Quite the opposite, it's really just pointing out what our real God is and has always been.

This is not the place to get me started on the confederate flag.  But there is probably a correlation between those who believe the flag represents the military and the confederate flag is a representation of southern pride.

Why do that when politics is brought in and not stopped dead like it should be. Go figure.

There are those that fail to understand the Constitution is not weighted in it's application.  Either that or being willingly dismissive of parts they don't agree with or feel strongly about.

Ah the NFL where one of its biggest money makers is from the military paying them to advertise with fly overs and all other kind of nonsense.    THEN people get upset about protests, "keep politics out of football" but yet are 100% fine with anthem and flyovers.    Also, these protests and BLM are not political matters.    When people say that, and also say "go to the Tinderbox" it shows how ignorant they are.     If you think wanting people to not get killed is a political issue you need to re-evaluate yourself.     Let's be honest, $20 million is actually nothing to a company this large.    Compare to what Jordan Brand just pledged.    It's all a PR stunt.    Until they focus more on the real issue, and admit they were 100% wrong about kneeling, and possibly even admit that Kap has been blackballed then this is all nonsense.

Tradition, whether or not it makes sense, in this case, the playing National Anthem before sporting events, is still tradition.  For better or worse, it does represent to most folks, exactly what Brees said it did.  I think the last time I went to a Nascar race, years ago, they waaaaay overdid the whole "America" thing. From prayers to Nat'l Anthem, to America, to God Bless the USA, it was a bit much.  That is a conversation in itself.

My contention years ago, and I still feel somewhat the same, is that you miss a huge audience, that might actually agree with you, depending on how you present your case and how you open their eyes to what is happening.  Gaining respect through disrespect might have not been the best use of Kaeps efforts.  I think most agree that there is a big problem, but just like then, I think crapping on what is perceived, rightly or wrongly, as sacred, will lose or alienate people that would otherwise be allies.

What moves the needle, what changes hearts?  Could the NFL promote events to promote unity with players and coaches doing service in communities and speak out on causes gain more acceptance and actually have a better effect than the route Kaep took?  I think the goal is to have a light shine on injustice.  What is the NFL giving $20 million to, or for?  Is it hush money, so they can get back to "normal", until at least the next injustice shows up?  Nobody can see into the future, but if there were "events" in every NFL city, including Minneapolis, for the last 3 years or more, would the police have changed their unjust behavior?  Would Floyd still be with us?  Nobody knows, but I am just spitballing on what might be the best approach.  I really think that local stuff is more of an answer than DC, we will see.

Nice alt.  Registered last year and this is your first post.

Lol good point. Truth is when I go to create/topic this forum is grayed out.  I guess my general panthers take is as follows:

Bill Bellichick, Tom Brady, and Bob "Rub & Tug" Kraft should have been locked up for cheating and stealing the 2003/2004 Super Bowl. Considering all the lost sports wagers, should be for grand larceny, Maybe 10 years in a non white collar prison.

Ron Rivera - Seemed like a good motivator, terrible manager of injuries (Cam), bad clock and game day manager. How he never mastered the clock is odd since he's been in NFL since the 80s.

New Owner and Staff - Painful to say, but they were right to clean house. So far seem to be making all the right moves. Had to start somewhere, so smart to go all defense in draft and I like their picks. Need to scrounge up at least 1 or 2 more offensive lineman. and about 20 other players.
