Eric Reid goes off on NFL

Recommended Posts

I agree with his points on the NFL trying to squash the movement originally and how there is systemic racism but $20 million is nothing to scoff at in the slightest. I get they can contribute more, and they could in the future, but with the uncertainty of the upcoming season any and all contributions should be welcomed and not criticized.

Again, I agree with everything else.

Everyone is just posturing. He who cries the loudest cares the most. The ones who don’t cry as loudly as those around them are crying are clearly just enabling the problem.

The thing is people are completely ignoring the root cause of racial injustice and unchecked police power. Nobody is getting on the news and pointing out the failure that the drug war is. And how it disproportionately adversely affects the minorities. And how it has claimed many lives and ruined countless others.

Football players clamoring to spend the NFL’s money is about as pointless as it gets.

Donald Trump: Drew Brees should not have apologized, we all should stand

Trump wrote on Twitter that Brees should stand by what he initially said, when he suggested that kneeling during the anthem is disrespecting the country.

“I am a big fan of Drew Brees. I think he’s truly one of the greatest quarterbacks, but he should not have taken back his original stance on honoring our magnificent American Flag. OLD GLORY is to be revered, cherished, and flown high,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “We should be standing up straight and tall, ideally with a salute, or a hand on heart. There are other things you can protest, but not our Great American Flag – NO KNEELING!”

I've learned a while ago to not let myself get upset by what Donald Trump says or tweets anymore. Don't get me wrong. I pretty much hate the guy and it sickens me that he's our president. But it's his most ardent supporters that annoy me more because I genuinely doubt he would be this outspoken and brazen if he didn't think his supporters would eat it up. Honestly, Trump could say "Fu** all of you stupid ni***s!! Stop being violent thugs! You are the reason our country is hurting! #MAGA #KAG" and it wouldn't even shock me at this point. And I bet 99% of his supporters would still vote for him, and the majority would love him even more. If his supporters suddenly collectively decided black lives do matter and we should engage in police reform, I bet you'd see him tweet in support of that.

As far as Reid's point, I'm having trouble getting terribly behind that. I wholeheartedly support the protests but how are you going to shout angrily at a donation of $20 million because you don't think it's enough? Particularly now that the whole economy is in a tough position. And I wouldn't be surprised if NFL later donates more as more revenue comes in. If you want to call them out on their hypocrisy, that's fair. And at the end of the day, he probably feels completely wronged for everything that happened with him and Kaepernick and will have a hard time ever getting over that, which again is understandable. But his posts are starting to come off more as vindictive than pro-movement.

As a society, our view is pretty skewed. Obviously when it comes to race, and it needs adjusting, and also when it comes to money. When did $20 million become nothing?

The NFL's track record isn't perfect, no one's is, but it never helps when someone finally puts their shoulder to the wheel if you then jump on them and ask them where the eff were they yesterday?

If you really want change, then you can't attack those who have seen the light, come to your side and are trying to help. Otherwise that change will collapse and die.

The same NFL that said they weren’t blackballing Kaep? Now you have those inside, or who were inside, saying different.

You took them on their word with that, too lol

Adrian Peterson will “without a doubt” kneel during national anthem

“Years ago, seeing Kaepernick taking a knee, now we’re all ready to take a knee together going into this season without a doubt,” Peterson said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Asked if he will take a knee, Peterson replied: “Without a doubt, without a doubt.”

Im sorry (not really) but trying to walk the tightrope between civil rights and your redneck fans just isn't acceptable anymore.  The NFL is a double digit BILLION dollar enterprise in no small part due to the contributions of African Americans.

Holding the 30 white principal owners (out of 32) to a standard that recognizes the 2nd class status that the overwhelming majority of their players/employees came from/live in is not unreasonable.

Its time to stop giving billionaires a pass for ignoring the plight of those whose backs they have built their fortunes on.

20m is a drop in the bucket of what the NFL and the NCAA owe the African American communities of the country.
