This is great news!  I have no doubt he's going to do great in the role.  Now we have two Panther's greats that have retired and kept on with the organization.   Heck, even Chase Blackburn stayed on....not to equate him with Mills and Luke.

Based on the description of the role, it sounds like this is a stepping stone down the coaching path. He's such a student of the game, I have no doubt that he would be right at home coming up with defensive looks to counter offensive schemes, and eventually developing an entire defensive playbook. I expect in a couple years he's an assistant D Coord, and then probably skipping the position coach role and landing a DC role somewhere.

Probably Buffalo the way things have been going.

I think he would make an excellent defensive coordinator but I also believe he might be a great talent scout and eventual GM.

It's been said elsewhere in this thread; a huge part of the GM's job is contract gymnastics. I don't know if that's really playing to Luke's strength, and frankly I think it's squandering his talent to not dedicate every iota of his attention to what's happening on the field.

Great points but he may also consider it a challenge to learn that part of the business.  I think has to tools for the personnel side and may want to learn the money side.

I'm ok with either way.  I think he'd be an amazing defensive coach and eventually head coach one day.  There is a theory out their that great players don't make great coaches.   Mike Singletary and Mike Ditka are probably the two more recognizable but their careers were mediocre.  Not great.

This is how I see it playing out as well.  This position is a tool for the coaching staff.  Not player evaluation for FA purposes.  I like the timeline as well, except that I think he will take over for Snow.
