David NewtonESPN Staff Writer

The Panthers released tight end Seth DeValve today citing a non-football injury, a league source told ESPN's Field Yates. DeValve was a fourth-round pick out of Princeton by the Cleveland Browns in 2016. He was with Jacksonville last year and signed by Carolina in March. While with Cleveland in 2017, DeValve became the first white player to kneel during the national anthem to protest social injustice.

Panthers released TE Seth DeValve.

Cleveland's fourth-round pick in 2016, Carolina released DeValve with an undisclosed non-football injury only a few months into the 27-year-old's contract. A part-time player with the Jaguars (12/140) last year, it will admittedly be tough for DeValve to latch on anywhere until facilities re-open to players. Expect him to sign elsewhere later this summer

Here's Clay's numbers.  He was productive until the last couple of years.  Probably not a good fit in his one year with the Cardinals.  Not sure what happened his last season in Buffalo, though.

I tend to think of "non football injuries" as generally being minor (especially with a decent amount of time to heal before camp) but I haven't seen any more specific information.

Maybe they've just decided he's nothing special or perhaps there's somebody else they like better and they're dumping him to make room.

A bubble player having a non football injury would kinda seal the deal on getting cut
