My perspective was changed when Cam decided he needed a multi year extension and wouldn't play out his deal he was on.  Throw in 31 other teams including his ex coach who showed no interest...  writing is on the wall

Who said anything about scared?  when i mentioned it before it wasn't taken seriously. There were cam fanboys falling from the sky on this site.

To my knowledge, he never did.  It was rumored that either he or his agent said that, but I never saw anything that he actually did make that demand or anything that conclusively indicated anything he said meant that.

Then again, when that back and forth was going on and for several weeks afterwards, people here were spinning everything he or the Panthers said fast enough to achieve flight. 

I always thought that was an odd connection of dots, because his recent injury history did not put him in a position to demand an extension or else he was sitting out.  NOT being on the field to prove he was healthy would have been the last thing he should have been thinking.  His value would not have gone up by sitting out, and missing 16 more games.

Fans forget that Cam was hurt well before the Pittsburgh game. And then expect other teams managers to remember Cams performance...

During that time he released that "I need a commitment" video. Again if teams or even one team viewed Cam as a all-pro talent he'd be signed. I view Cam has much much higher than 32 GMs, scouts, and talent evaluators.

Why would they be in contract negotiations for a multi year if he was going to play this year?  The team would obviously rather him just play his contract out and reward him next offseason if he balls out.  Pretty obvious he was threatening to sit and wanted commitment.

Personally I think this has been a convientent excuse throughout the process.  Teams have resources to get around this.  Also doctors tend to be viewed as essential.

Flacco doesn't really put pressure on the starter.  In some ways teams don't really want the best backup QB possible.  If Cam is the backup and the starter loses a few games the fans might go crazy to put Cam in, where as other backups don't really "pressure " the starter that much.

Either way, there is a lot of speculation in this thread.  As fans you have to be really careful  believing what is reported.  Almost everyone has an agenda, not to mention there is some stuff that doesn't get reported.

For all we know maybe a team did offer him a starting job early in the process but the money was less than Cam thought he deserved at the time.  Maybe Cam now is willing to be a back up but early in the process he didn't want to be.  I'm not sure any of us really know.

Personally I don't see teams really viewing him as back up material. A lot of teams want cheap guys, who don't put pressure on the starter, who can come in and run the system that is already in place for said starter.  Cam is probably viewed as someone that you build an offense around.  Nobody is going to build an offense around a back up.

Take the backup jobs out of the equation, how many starting jobs were really a possibility?

Patriots?  Not a surprise they passed

Chargers?  They drafted their guy.  Is Cam the guy for a rookie to learn from?  Its not like Herbert is going to run the same system.

Redskins?  Not ready to give up on Haskins.

Dolphins?  Drafted their guy

Jags?  Maybe they think they have something with Minshew

Bears?  For awhile I thought this was Cams best shot.  Trubisky played better at the end of the season.  Might have been the difference.

I don't view it was 32 teams passed on Cam.  Really there were only a few viable teams for him.  Hindsight is always 20/20 but I think Cam, along with a lot of fans on this board, severally overstated his market.

Between the injuries, and recent production, teams just don't view him as a big enough upgrade to make a major change at the QB position or to give up on a young guy they already have.

Anyone who is insinuating Cam not being signed for anything more than injury history is just blowing smoke.  No team is going to bet their seasons on a guy with an injury history of Cam and a declining weapon in his running ability.  If a position opens up, he'll get called but he is not going to be any team's first choice and Cam is showing that he has the patience to wait for the opportunity.  Nothing more than that.  It's not whatever issue or cause you want to create to form division.  Cam will get an opportunity if an injury occurs, but teams just aren't going to look stupid after we released him.  He did so much for this team, so we wouldn't release him unless we had serious concerns.
