Cam is the only QB left unsigned.

And Flacco says he won't even be ready for the season opener (if needed).  You think the Jets had to know his recovery timetable and still signed him.

$1.5 mil. We don't know if Cam would sign that small a deal in a backup role. And cam is not a plug and play guy. He needs the system built around him.

A lot is working against him.

True, but Flacco admitted in the same article that he was completely unfamiliar with the system that the Jets offense is running.  So it's not like Flacco is riding a bike here, he's got a long recovery and learning a band new system.

The $1.5 million contract was probably the clincher for the Jet.

More to it than that...IMO.  Cam is larger than life, it would shock me if Cam goes to a team to be the backup, if there's not an established starter there.

Sam isn't there yet, and the first time he has a couple bad games in a row, the NY fans and media would be screaming for Cam....and let's just suffice it to say that FO and coaching staff aren't exactly on stable ground up there.

If Cam is going to be a backup, it would have to be a place like Tampa, Seattle, Pitt, etc...

Cam apparently is his own worst enemy then.  It goes beyond the Jets and Flacco, that was an example to illustrate injury recovery alone don't keep guys from getting signed.  He wants/wanted to: a) be a starter b) obviously getting starters money c) a system that features his abilities (tailor-made for him) d) an organization that's not going to cramp his personality e) not 'settle' for a backup job until the market had dried up f) wants a commitment (apparently no one-year deals) g) won't settle for a peanut salary even as a backup QB.

Granted, the pandemic did him no favors, but I think Cam did more damage to his own market than the pandemic.  Cam simply over-valued his FA market.  He pushed all his chips to center table not realizing his low three-of-a-kind was a weak play until the hand was over.

I've been saying this for some time now....whomever is advising Cam is either doing a poor job, or Cam isn't taking the advice.

I just question why he isn't being given the same opportunity to "suck" as all the trash guys who have been signed.  It's just so bizarre.  He's a competitor and former MVP, although it's possible that he's being a "diva" about being a starter as some of you have assumed, it is purely speculation.  The opposite is also true, he's either being blackballed or just isn't being afforded a base level second chance like other guys who have never even been starter material at all.  Call me crazy but just doesn't make sense to me.

Do you see that as a good thing? Asking for a fellow poster.

It depends. If he is going to be a backup he needs to be able to be a plug and play guy because the offense should be built around QB1s skill set.

If he is going to be QB1, then yes, he should have the offense made to suit his strengths and minimize his deficiencies.

I would say most offenses in the NFL are not built around Cams playing style. That makes it much harder for him to just step in an take over a starter goes down. Add in his own admission of difficulty with remembering the play calling system, and he becomes less desirable.

Don't get me wrong, Cam has the potential to still be a starting quarterback in this league. I just think his road to get there is going to be a lot more challenging than expected.

Intersting...thanks for the perspective.

So, if I’m clear here: teams are offering physicals right now, yet, none have reached out to Newton for a medical eval, and yet, these teams have all the information they need to make a thorough decision on Cam’s health status?

Not sure how the rest the NFL could fully see what the Panthers saw, when they—quite literally—have yet to actually see Newton.
