Shame they signed Dalton. Would have been a good spot for Cam.

Still could and come in less than 45 million. 7 million for a backup isnt that bad for a playoff level team. Have Cam for 10 milllion, then have best man gets the job.

Jerry should pull a Gettleman and resend the tag, fug that 45 million noise. Goodluck getting that anywhere.

I take it back. I would much rather have a max contract cap like the NBA. Bc the NFL is already pretty much the same way. It’s just not “labeled” as it. But, it’s worse bc of the next man up bullshiat. In the NBA, guys are not getting paid more than the last guy. They get paid as the same guy playing their position. Guys in the NFL are still getting paid by their position like the NBA but more than the last guy. Do you really want to give Dak 40-45m a year now? The next two guys coming up are Watson and Mahomes. Pay them 50-55m (they probably are worth it) but now you have to pay guys like Lamar Jackson, Mayfield, Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, etc. 55-60m+ after that? That’s insanely stupid. I would rather have a max and just pay all those guys the same.

Why do you care? You seem personally bothered by it. Teams paying QBs huge money are forced to make tough decisions elsewhere on their roster keeping the parity of the league. In the NBA you end up with pretty mediocre players netting max contracts because it's a false ceiling. That and the soft salary cap are why the NBA has turned into a super team league where only a handful of teams can reasonably expect to compete and that sucks.

So rookies play for free?

No, but I think we should have position caps.

You could argue, "But you don't have to pay the QB...."  but this game should be played on the field.  In my opinion, I would like to see a cap (percentage, not #) for QBs--like, the QB position cannot be more than 11% of the cap.

I care bc we paid Teddy Bridgewater a mediocre QB 21m a year!

Explore all trade options. If they can't trade him then try and tag him and draft the future. If he won't  sign the tender, drop him after thr draft.

Fug him, just not worth it. On the flip side, I love the Cowboys doing dumb crap so go ahead and eat that folly.

I think Dak is a good QB. I definitely don't think Dak is a $45M per season type of QB. That would force the Cowboys to part with a lot of talent over the next few years.

Shame Dak is still very young, Dallas is perfectly set up to either draft a QB on a rookie deal or sign a mediocre vet and try and compete. You sign Dak for that kind of money you pretty much wasted a bunch of great drafts by not signing them. I’d rather have all that talent. Dak is not good enough like say Brees or Rodgers to eat all that cap and still have a competitive team. Is Jones smart enough to know or even care? Yet to be seen.

The Cowboys are on record saying this is a false report. Plus,Prescott could get rich just playing on the franchise tag. The tag is reportedly a little more than $31 million this season, and next year it would be even more. If the Cowboys aren’t offering at least $70 million in guaranteed money the next two years, it doesn’t make much sense for Prescott to accept.

Mediocre based on what? His stats years ago for Minnesota? His 5-0 record for the Saints? Most people here want to harp winning or losing. His record as a starter is 22-12.  That isn't exactly mediocre.

That's on us. It was stupid on the surface. But, it's basically a two year deal and I think he's probably primarily here to help install the offense and play wet nurse for a year to the QB we draft next April. If it all works out like that, it may very well turn out to be a good investment.
