XFL coming back..........Again?

If the XFL or any minor league football became affiliated with the NFL and allowed college aged kids to play in it and actually paid them a salary,  the division 1A college presidents would throw such a hissy fit and sue so many people I don't know if that league would make it 1 year.  The college presidents would take them to court, congress and do everything else they could to stop it.  Whoever started it would have to have pockets so deep that they could fight pretty much all of college football in the court system.

This.

One difference the NFL has over baseball and basketball is the Clarett Rule, which states a player must wait until 3 years after high school graduation before declaring for the NFL draft. Baseball players get drafted in high school and NCAA basketball should be renamed the 1-and-done league. A true NFL developmental league or the XFL would be taking kids out of high school and paying them while they wait for the NFL draft. Even Alabama wouldn't stand a chance.

NFL already has a developmental and minor league - it’s called college football.

Problem with that? The players come out of college NOT READY for the NFL, they become a bust and end up going from team to team until they give up.

And the XFL is better than college.

I think it would be too hard, logistically, to make it work. There would be lots of things you would have to account for.

Would there be a second draft with a pool from the developmental league?
Would each team have a farm team that only they had access to the players of?
Would these teams replace practice squads?

I mean, theoretically it could work. But you'd have to have a whole lot of new rules, money for funding, etc. etc. etc. that I just don't see pro football generating at this time.

Lol the XFL already worked. At least what, 10 XFL players got signed to the NFL right now. 1 being a backup for the Panthers? PJWalker. It works. The corona virus messed everything up.

I'm not sure how a developmental league would impact Alabama that much, even if you let kids go there directly after high school.

Well... when McMahon declared Bankruptcy for the XFL.. the WWE Stock plummeted. Since then, WWE was the only sport that was on TV, until racing started. It's viewership broke records. Now the WWE stock is were it was pre-Corona.

College football is superior to the XFL in every shape and form. A lot of people like college ball better than the NFL. Not everybody makes it in the NFL which is why it’s important for them to take their scholarship seriously and have something to fall back on.

I sincerely doubt it will have any affiliation with the NFL. But I think an XFL could work now as a "competitor" to the NFL, and was poised for self-sustaining success for the NFL offseason. It just had the misfortune of launching the same year as a once-in-a-century disease outbreak.

People who never seen the XFL always say this.

I enjoyed the XFL for two reasons. They were innovative and not afraid to be different and try different things, some good some bad; and more football for me. It’s like guilt free desserts are you really going to bash it if it’s free and delicious?

I watched a game at bar in February. It was ok to watch only because there was nothing else on. Coronavirus May have killed the XFL this time, but it wouldn’t have lasted much longer regardless. There is a reason these leagues keep failing. It can’t compete with the NFL at all.
