XFL coming back..........Again?

It seems Vince McMahon just can’t get enough football. Word on the street is that the league still employs certain positions and they have reached out to Seattle and St Louis to inquire about a lease moving forward. So was the bankruptcy was just a ploy by McMahon to navigate around his creditors and avoid financial loss during the Pandemic? Maybe so, we may see the XFL once again.

Our fellow North Carolinian McMahon, sure is a crusty, tight, financial genius. Maybe he will find a way to keep football alive after his rasslin business is sold to ESPN or Fox Sports.

I wish the NFL would subsidize the XFL as a minor league proving ground.  It would be a win-win.  We get football 3 more months out of the year and with a minor League affiliate to pull for and the NFL gets a developmental League.

NFL already has a developmental and minor league - it’s called college football.

Every sport has a developmental league in that case.  I was talking about a professional developmental league.

I think it would be too hard, logistically, to make it work. There would be lots of things you would have to account for.

Would there be a second draft with a pool from the developmental league?
Would each team have a farm team that only they had access to the players of?
Would these teams replace practice squads?

I mean, theoretically it could work. But you'd have to have a whole lot of new rules, money for funding, etc. etc. etc. that I just don't see pro football generating at this time.

The NFL wants a developmental league, they just don't want to be fully in charge of it.  That's where the AAFL or whatever it was called was supposed to come in.  The league folded, but the NFL was a partner in that endeavor.

Wtf kind of logic is this lol. Baseball has double and triple A. The NBA has development leagues like the hornets and the Greensboro swarm. ALL have college leagues as well. And this is the best answer you could come up with?

Yeah, this would be 2021 at the earliest and likely 2022 before the XFL or something similar could get it's footing.  This pandemic has to be largely in the rear view mirror first with no restrictions to clubs and fans for it to have a chance to work.

The XFL had a good thing going until this broke out.  I think a 16-team league would work with one NFC and one AFC club attached to it.  It would be for 'futures' players, practice squad guys, players that have been in the League trying to get back in and UDFA college players still trying to break in the League.

Contracts would be simple and standard. Take it or leave it.  It's not about the money as much as it is a second chance or opportunity to get into the NFL.

I could envision 3 tiers of players for NFL clubs.  Designated no-touch guys, right of refusal and UFA.  In other words: a group of guys NFL teams potentially want on their roster that need more experience no other team can acquire, fringe guys they may want to keep, but the clubs have the right to block and lastly guys that any team can scoop up.

There wouldn't be a draft, it would considered FA.  In a rare case like Kenny Robinson, they declare for the college draft.

I just dont think it would happen.  Even when the restrictions are lifted it will take a looonnng time for things to get back to normal. This, by the way, is operating under the assumption that things do return to normal and restrictions are lifted completely at some point.

I think the league will be back, there is way to much money left on the shelf and football is too popular. If McMahon is trying to buy his league back from creditors, it tells me his league may have been forecasted to turn a profit. There is no way McMahon would spend more money to get those rights back, if the league was not financially feasible. McMahon could have some NFL support, who knows. I also find it interesting that Oliver Luck was fired, and he has filed a lawsuit over wrongful termination, maybe he knew McMahon was bankrupting the company just to buy it back later. If the Olympics had a medal for C-Level exec games, McMahon would win gold every time, crazy frugal bastard.

Throughout history no pandemic has cramp human interaction indefinitely.  This too shall pass in time.
