Ian Thomas

Ian had to fill in for Greg a couple times before, and he did great with what he had to work with. I’m confident he can grow into that TE1 role, he’s gonna be a great pass catching TE.I don't know if Brady not using TEs in college will transfer to the NFL, but it seems like 1 or 2 good pass catching TEs would be a good safety blanket for Teddy if throwing deep isnt his strong suit. Probably better than just throwing at CMC slightly beyond the LOS for a lesser gain . Brady's offensive scheme doesn't use extra blockers to help the O-Line, so the fact that Ian Thomas isn't spectacular as a blockin. I think Ian Thomas will get the job done as the 5th or 6th option in the pass game (after DJ, Robby, Curtis, CMC, maybe another WR)

I haven't seen anything yet to show Thomas as a N F L caliber starting Tight End .

He is one of many players on the roster that needs to show a big improvement , for us to be competitive .

This 100%. I like Ian, I hope he can make it big. But honestly, he's been in Olsen's shadow for a long time and we've only got glimpses of what he can do. I want to be optimistic, but reality says he hasn't proven himself at all yet as a TE1. I hope he does, though, I hope he does.

Hasn't proven or hasn't been given a chance? We will soon find out

Moss had 47 catches of 570 yards last year at LSU.  Brady uses TE.  Stop making threads when you don't know what you are talking about.

LSU threw for over 6000 yards. Moss’ season was a product of having 3 stellar WRs and a stellar RB and just being wide open and he still accounted for less than 10% of the passing yards. Based on Bridgewater and the NFL not being a pinball game, Thomas’ ceiling is probably 400 or so yards. Also, don’t expect red zone scores. Moss had 4 of the 61 passing TDs and 3 of the 4 came in the CFP games. 50% of his TDs and almost 20% of his yards came in one game against Oklahoma.

The OP is an eternal optimist but Moss’ stats are way below what Olsen has done while healthy and in an offense that passed way less than LSU did. It’s not much of a stretch to say that Brady uses TEs a lot less than what we are used to pre-Brady. I’d say we’ll probably end up around 20th in TE yards and that’s with a passing game people think will be chucking it way more than with Cam (averaged about 3500 yards per year).

He has 9 starts with 469 yds and 3 tds.  We know he didnt get any play time unless Olsen was out. Over a full season that would be 834 yds and 6 TDs.  That would put him #6 in the league last year in yards and tied for 4th in TDs.  Im not saying he would definately get those numbers, but I think its enough to say that when given a chance he proved he can be a starting TE in the NFL.

Agreed. Ian could benefit in this offense but we shouldn't expect Ben Coates (Who he kind of reminds me of if he hits his ceiling).

I can see Ian with 450-600 yards but I think it's clear there's a decent step for him to take into a big time TE role.  DeValve brings us a good cushion if Ian has hiccups.  It's a prove it year for him so it could be pretty cool if he excels.

This comes back to just being downright excited about Joe Brady.  It's pretty wild we have a change at nearly every top spot on the roster and staff and the OC is so young and promising, he's bringing the most hype.

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
