With what cap space?  Besides...Teddy wasn’t riding the pine for another season.  He wanted to start again, and more than one team was willing to give him that opportunity.

They currently have about $9.5M in cap space.  They paid Teddy $7.2M last season to be a backup. If they're operating under the premise that this is Brees' last season, they could've easily took the contract we offered Teddy and dropped his base salary this season from $8M to $1M and converted that $7M into a signing bonus and been able to offer Teddy the same guaranteed money that we did and kept his first year cap hit in the $9.5M range. A restructure or two (or simply opting for Teddy over Taysom Hill) and they would've been just fine in terms of cap. At the end of the day, they were choosing between Hill and Teddy and they chose Hill.

All that BS above and you failed miserably at considering the fact, which I plainly pointed out, that Teddy wanted to start and was done sitting on the bench.  The decision wasn’t the Saints to make.  The Saints didn’t choose Hill over Teddy. Teddy chose a starting gig over a backup gig.  Simple as that.

I’ll believe it when I see him actually retire.

TD58, Smitty, etc...

...a girlfriend once said “a woman always reserves the right to change her mind” — ditto star level NFL players...

...Brees def playing in 2021-2022 if not beyond, doubly after he sees GOATOM ball out again.

Put another way, why would DB pack it in at his peak?  Especially if they play in the Super Bowl (win or lose).
