Will Panthers fans treat Rivera like Gettleman after leaving?

I don't root against Gettleman but I do highlight his shortcomings when his contingent of super fans on here repeatedly suggest he's a flawless gm and firing him was a colossal mistake. It doesn't hurt me if he succeeds in New York. He could win GM of the year or get fired and it wouldn't really impact my day much either way.

I don't feel much different about Ron. He's not a Panther anymore and whether he fails or succeeds in Washington doesn't effect the Panthers success. If anything he's more likeable than Gettleman so I lean towards wishing him well but honestly have minimal investment one way or the other.

Rivera is the best head coach in Carolina Panther history and we all know it

I still think Fox was. They both accomplished the same feats but the difference maker for me was Fox had was less talent. In comparison the talent Rivera had and only made one Super Bowl he’s equivalent imo.

I hope not. Ron was a large part of the best season in Panther history and was overall a pretty good coach, just too conservative in nature to adapt to a continuously changing league. His players loved him and it seems like he is a genuinely decent person. I'm glad we moved on, but will remember Ron kindly.

Gettleman has never proven that he is a good GM (the core of that 2015 roster had nothing to do with him), and he appeared to go out of his way to alienate Panther greats. He's Jerry Krause without the success.

A certain segment of fans will always be classless about it and wish him the worst because if he proves he can win elsewhere, then maybe their decade old claim that it was certain players carrying the Panthers to wins and not coaching will suddenly have no basis.

yeah i’m sick of everyone pretending kuechly was a hall of fame talent and conveniently forgetting the elite defensive coach calling the shots and running the show. it goes to show how shitty those guys on defense were (starting with “the quarterback of the defense”) that the great ron rivera (known for his defensive mastery) couldn’t manage at least a top 15 defense every single year

Don’t remember fans rooting against him after the firing, just many don’t see him having success because he lacks generational talents in WAS to grind into atoms after 4 years.

Gettleman was a dick through and through so different scenarios

yeah i definitely don’t give a fug what he does now im just glad i don’t ever have to see his stupid ass on the sideline just completely fuging baffled by the game whenever he wasn’t being bailed out by his players. i would say i’m glad he’s not here to ruin any other generational talents but looking over the roster it clearly wouldn’t be an issue here lol

By all accounts, Ron is a great guy, but an average at best coach.

Like Shultz said, he's a rudder...he can get the ship moving in the right direction, but he's not the engine....he needs a lot of help and luck to win 10+ games a season.

I like Ron as a guy. Seems like a good person who generally wants the best for his players, maybe to a fault. A guy like Gettleman sacrificed what was best for the players for the sake of winning. And it worked.

Just depends on what kind of management style you prefer. You want a guy that the players love that might not be the best actual coach? Ron's your guy. You want someone who will slash and burn anything that stands in the way of winning? Gettleman is your dude. I'd prefer a mix of both, which I hope Tepper and Matt Rhule can be.

Its a myth that Gettleman gets results from the way he conducts business.  Look at the mess in NY.  In 2015 there was a good Defense, a QB who had a magical season, and a lot of luck in regards to injury, to achieve that Superbowl appearance.

It's not a myth. The Panthers made the playoffs in 3 out of 4 seasons he was GM. 4 out of 5 if you include the 2017 team which was a team that he built. Can't argue with cold hard data.

And a mess is a pretty strong word for the Giants. They had a rookie QB that showed promise and I expect them to be much better next season. The Panthers are definitely more of a mess than the Giants to be honest.

True. Although I bear Ron no ill will,I'm glad he's gone. I think most of the players loved him, and he seemed to be a good DC for the chargers, he was not good at calling games. The mere fact that he had to invent "Riverboat Ron" to win games should tell you that.

For the record, I hope he wins his division every year. Not a fan of the giants and eagles, and FUG THE COWBOYS!

You are really counting a team with a losing record as a successful season?  He has had 2 horrific seasons as Giants GM and he is in store for another this year.  Gettleman cant build teams, only take teams with an established core and fill in roster with jags and hope things work out.
