So what’s going to happen if a player tests positive during “season”

Dudes are still beating the piss out of each other in the octagon in the present. Doubt it affects the actual games. Only attendance.

How many people are essential or necessary for a UFC fight? I don’t watch UFC because it’s repulsive and uncivilized, but I would be willing to bet that one NFL team has more people that are responsible for moving equipment than an entire UFC game or whatever it’s called. NFL can proceed with a season as usual minus fans but once a player or staff member tests positive - that’s it. Season postponed.

I’m not an expert on what goes on behind the scenes in professional MMA but I do know there’s probably not a sport that puts two athletes in closer proximity to one another and although there are only 2 athletes competing there are dozens of folks behind the scenes in their camp, production, etc. It’s just as risky if not more and the show goes on in May. We still have a couple months before the NFL kicks off so any notion of the entire season being shut down is a bit premature.

I don’t see it as an awful comparison but far be it from me to be the judge, jury and executioner. I’m just saying NFL teams will put an emphasis on making the environment as sterile as possible, just as they did with the MRSA breakout. If there’s going to be football that’s about as much as they can do. Maybe I didn’t make that clear enough in my first post.

There is a huge difference between MRSA ( bacteria) and COVID-19 ( virus). One is a bacteria and one is a virus so the medical treatment of the 2 are nowhere even being remotely close to each other.

Everyone understands that MRSA and COVID-19 are not the same. We all also understand that COVID-19 is much more serious than MRSA. There are going to be extra precautions put in for COVID-19 just as there was for MRSA, even if the precautions are different.

I guess people don't watch the news. In the first stages, the virus only shows up on a test about half the rime.

Exactly. Everyone is screaming “more testing” but every test we have has accuracy problems.

Still can't compare the two.  Much easier to postpone a match and/or find replacement fighters for a scheduled fight night.  How you going to handle one team in quarantine?  The show goes on in May because it's 1 vs 1 and not a team sport.

The big difference is that those fighters on the UFC event weren't all practicing and training together on a daily basis. Football players on the same team are. Two of that fighter's cornermen also tested positive. That's what would happen on a football team. You get one positive and there will be more to soon follow.

Yeah, isn't hard to imagine a group of men huffing and puffing in each other's faces at the line of scrimmage spreading a virus pretty quickly over the course of a game.

How accurate is the testing and does it ID carriers before symptoms are present?

Players, coaches, refs and any support staff would have to be kept in isolation from their families and friends for an entire season.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

85k out of 330 million, that’s a 0.0285% death rate. Say you have 20.00 and you lost 0.0285%, you would still have $19.998 left

I feel bad for this dude’s kids who come to him for help on their 1st grade math homework.

I'm a big MMA fan, but I honestly don't care for most other MMA fans or Dana White.

But, it'd be like shitting on the NFL because Goodell and Saints fans suck.

I used to like Conor until he started sucker punching old guys at pubs. Going to Fox and Hound in birkdale when there is a UFC fight is like going to the zoo.

Oh yeah, I NEVER watch UFC events in public. That's a sure fire way to lose whatever little hope for humanity you may have.

Off topic, but I lived in Birkdale Village before moving to CO. We lived in one of the end unit townhouses on Camden Hollow. Super easy walk down to everything. I honestly don't think I ever went to the Fox and Hound. I always went to Brixx. They had a great tap selection and some screaming happy hour deals. But I'm talking 13 years ago.
