ummmm... number of qb's drafted by the Panthers between Clausen and Grier not named Cam Newton: 0

Jesus lol apparently I did a terrible job getting my point across, so allow me to clarify:

The OP didn’t specify biggest QB reach...he classified Grier as the biggest reach, period, since Clausen. We’ve had plenty of bad reaches in between the two: Gaulden, Amini, Fua, Worley...that’s off the top of my head. Seemed like he picked the low-hanging fruit and just wanted to compare Grier to Clausen...both underwhelming noodle-armed white QBs that we drafted fairly early on.

Do y’all really think he meant that Grier was our worst QB reach since Clausen? How does that make any sense since, as you guys pointed out, there weren’t any QBs drafted since Clausen other than Cam?

Chalk it up to another example of ya' never know...  I don't think it was reach to draft him, as at the time, we had a starter and were hoping to develop the next gen, while also giving assurance to Cam that this was not a threat to his starting position.  Lots to balance at the time. Also, I would imagine the coaches felt that they could work on his mechanics and get him some zip on the ball.  But alas, things change and he was put out on the field without that development.

I'd like to see what the new staff does with him, but I wouldn't feel let down if he's cut and moves on.

When you draft a QB with the 100th pick you're not exactly thinking he's going to be a starter. Pickles was the 48th pick in the draft, so that hurt a lot more. Going into the draft I couldn't understand why rumors were flying that Hurney was in love with Grier, but I didn't understand the Pickles love either. I can't stand later round long shot QBs being drafted by the Panthers. I that so much.

To be honest I was in shock by how mediocre Grier looked last season. He was much worse than I expected, and I already had low expectations. Grier basically lacks the talent to make the tough throws, has a noodle arm, and relies on check down passes as much as Pickles. Noodle arm Grier will not receive a second contract here.

No more wing and a prayer poop QBs. No more. Our sights should be set on the best QB prospects at the top of the draft. I don't want the Saints 3rd best QB. I don't want a piece poop Hurney found in the 3rd round. We need a superstar QB. Otherwise I have no hope of the Panthers winning the SB. Just not happening.

Teddy has promise and untapped starter's potential in the NFL.

The thing about the Grier pick was that the other third rounder was traded for Little.  For those who love third rounders.  Still, taking a flyer on a third rounder is not horribly stupid---I will go on the record as saying that Grier does not make the roster.  I think we try to put him on the PS and he gets nabbed by some team without a clue.  I would give Bonnefon some emergency reps once in a while at practice.  Save a roster spot.

I will say that this year's third rounder is a good'n.

You get guys like Gaulden in the 3rd round here in Carolina.

1  --- You forgot Tony Pike

Given that Pike was taken in the same draft as Clausen and was clearly a late round flier whose entire pro career consisted of 12 pass attempts later that season, I don’t think bringing him up does anything but harp on a purely technical point.

We obviously did. A well-thrown ball right in the breadbasket stripped out of the WR’s hand is only the quarterback’s fault when significant personal dislike comes into play.

I really am drawing a blank on the throw you're talking about. From what I remember everything was lofted high and soft for anyone to come down with. His throws looked panicked and rushed and completely inaccurate more than 5 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Do you have the play in question? Even if you do, one good throw out of 20+ bad ones doesn't mean he's got what it takes to make it in the NFL. I really don't think he has the skills to do it based on what I saw and who he couldn't beat out all season. I say this with not hating the pick when it happened and actively rooting for him to succeed.

LMAO I guess you don't know what implied means. Did I really have to be specific if this topic was about Grier. I feel Cam wasn't near a bust at QB but Clausen was so obviously Id use his situation as a measuring stick. Why did race have to be brought into this man, people like you are sad. Stick to the topic and keep that reverse racism nonsense to yourself.

I didn’t realize the term “white” was so loaded and triggering on these boards lol, good job with the reverse reverse racism...that was some 4-D stuff right there.

I guess I was giving you too much credit... so you seriously did just start a thread asking if Grier was our worst QB reach since Clausen? When he was the only QB drafted other than Cam? Bravo...keep up the good work! 10/10 thread.
