Perspective on Will Grier

Based on the highlights and eval vids out there on him at WVU, I think he could be a low-level to decent starter. Kind of in a Jake Delhomme/Derek Anderson kind of way.

He was a solid "prospect" but should not have seen the field during the regular season. I think with the right tutelage and a cushion of expectation to become a QB (3 more years maybe), I think he could be serviceable.

Never will understand when rookies look like rookies and get badmouthed for it.

Really then why did everyone give grief to Allen.  He was basically a rookie last year also.  He started one game last year...the last one and did well.  Did everyone have high expectations for him due to one game at the end of last year against NO.  Can't say Grier should have been cut slack and not Allen also.

Grier is the definition of a wasted pick. You can find starters in the 3rd round of the draft, which we desperately needed. Instead, we chose a QB who at best can be a 2nd string guy. Honestly it was one of the worst picks Hurney has made in his time here.

I thought we should have traded Will Grier and kept Kyle Allen, who has a lot more upside, i feel Allen will be in the NFL for a good while and Grier will be out of it soon.

I am interesting to see how Kyle Allen does at Washington if he gets a chance to play behind an offensive line that will have to be better than ours was last year.

It was unfortunate that Allen went to a college that didn't suit him or visa versa and transfered to another one, which cost him valuable time in his development.

Allen attended Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona and during his high school career, he passed for over 8,000 yards and had 86 passing touchdowns. He was a five-star recruit by Rivals.com and was ranked as the best pro-style quarterback and seventh best player overall in his class. He is still very inexperienced as a QB, so let's see what happens if Riveria gives him a chance to start for the Redskins sometime this season.

The thing about the Grier pick was that the other third rounder was traded for Little.  For those who love third rounders.  Still, taking a flyer on a third rounder is not horribly stupid---I will go on the record as saying that Grier does not make the roster.  I think we try to put him on the PS and he gets nabbed by some team without a clue.  I would give Bonnefon some emergency reps once in a while at practice.  Save a roster spot.

I will say that this year's third rounder is a good'n.

Why since Jimmy Clausen?  Are we only considering white quarterbacks or something?  We've had plenty of bad reaches in between Clausen and Grier.

What QBs have we drafted between Clausen and Grier?  Cam was obviously the opposite of a bust, I can’t think of any others

It was a pick by the OC/QB coach.  I thought we had other needs in the draft so by that definition any QB chosen wouldn’t work for me.

Now he can’t complete a pass, inaccurate and not ready.  Maybe it was bad coaching too, it was already clear Ron will be gone and so are his buddies that he protected.

I'll be shocked if he salvages so much as a backup NFL career. He was absolutely abysmal last year.

What’s funny is that he actually looked OK in his first start. Good ability to escape the rush. Two of his three picks were balls thrown perfectly that his pussy WRs let get stolen out of their hands. I don’t care what QB experiences that, it’s not his fault. I was largely alright with his first game. Hell, you take away the fourth-down attempts in the red zone, make them kicks like they should’ve been and it’s 23-12 in the fourth quarter providing STs showed up.

another interesting fact: it took Clausen until December of 2015 before he threw for as many yards as Grier did in his first game.

We watched completely different games man. Grier looked like hot garbage and it wasn't the receiver's fault.

I thought he could have a Colt McCoy type ceiling but he seemed shell shocked and wasn't the gunslinger downfield style that he projected at WVU.

Hoping I'm wrong but he really did look Pickles bad.  Just couldn't move the offense.  Don't make me want to turn off a game.  He did.
