Could The 2021 QB Class Rival 1983 And What It Means For The Panthers?

Besides Brock Purdy, Sam Ehlinger is a QB from the Big 12 that intrigues me.  I've seen little of the Longhorns, but the NFL seems to love QBs out of that conference because it is so pass-happy.  Ehlinger's stats are really good, he has nice size to him, so I could see him going in the 1st round if he continues his sharp play and avoids injury.

The only reason I don't always include Sam is Rhule historical has a type, maybe that was solely based on necessity. But I need to see him do more athletically before I think he'd be under consideration for a longterm fixture. As well as more natural development

Nope, because short of him having a major scandal or significant injury he wouldn't fall outside the top 5 even with a Herbert-like pedestrian final season.

He may not need to drop all that far to get to us. Heck, depending on how things play out, he may not need to drop at all.

Just an FYI though: I'm not as big a Lawrence fan as many on here are.

True, but I'm thinking outside of the box in case we *gasp* actually win some games this year.  I'm not convinced we are going to suck quite as bad as 95% of the Huddle is.  Assuming we don't suck to the point of getting Lawrence, there's actually a great crop of QBs still to select from.  Not like this year where it was Burrow and then question marks at the QB2 and QB3 spots.  After that, well, we know this class dried up quickly.   Love was overrated based on a weak QB class.  In a good class, he'd been no higher than a 2nd rounder.

The point is this is a really deep QB class and there's no reason to hope for a crappy season in order to get a gem of a QB in next year's draft.  People shouldn't go full postal if we don't end up with the #1 overall pick.

Trey Lance is hands down one of the best qbs I ever seen . He’s way better then Lawrence

I like Lance, but I'm not sure I'd go that far.  It would be interesting to see the roles reversed though, Lawrence at NDSU and Lance at Clemson.

Who knows how many HOFers will be in next year's class?  We'll have to wait 20 years to see.  My comparison to the '83 class is the potential for 6 QBs to be drafted in round 1.  You were the one to bring up HOF statuses.  I was talking about the QB class talent and depth next draft.

6 QBs aren’t going round 1.

Remember what the league thought about the Rams when Trent Green went down?

You’re right. Same for Bledsoe and Brady. And same for Jake and Matt Moore.

I have never seen Lance play.  Having said that anyone who puts up 28 TD with 0 int and runs for over 1100 yards in one season can't suck.  That would be hard to do against a decent high school team much less at any level of college football.

Gay for Trey

(For Pay)

They have Fields and Lance going in back-to-back picks.  I would not be upset if we took Lance over Fields, especially if Trey ends up having a better season this year.  Physically they are the same guy. It would be about scheme fit and who could be more ready to start.
