There is a reason Rivera did this and It really just proved his inability to adjust. He did it because historically most NFL games are lost rather than won. So the idea is with a lead you just don’t blow it, so you run the clock out and let the opposition make mistakes trying to come back on you.

Problem is the league became a proficient, high-scoring passing league, that can move the ball and score quickly. So if you try and preserve a lead by sitting on your hands, you’re really just giving the opponent more possessions to score faster. You have to keep moving the chains and picking up points. It killed alot of old-school philosophy.

This, yeah. And it all happened quite a while back, and has been visibly happening for decades, so anyone with an IQ above room temperature figured it out. Certain dummies who can only learn by rote memorization never really caught on.

Speaking of which, what the fug is a football "philosophy"? Are you trying to win games or win a debate at the agora? Use your brain to help the team win games or just f*ck off to the Washington Redskins and fail there instead. We wasted so many years.
