But

you're on an internet message board posting about sports.

Obviously you could never be wrong.

Stop playing.

I need you when I have an argument with my wife

My dispute mediation fees are steep, but if some people have observed that I find in favor of the party paying me the overwhelming majority of the time and choose to characterize this as a form of bribery, I will not lower myself to answer such slanderous allegations and instead simply say you may PM me for my hourly rates. Bear in mind these rates are only suggested, tipping is encouraged for favorable results, err good service.

I like the new rookie contract pay scale. One, it keeps from having to pay top picks like automatic future HOFers. Two, it greatly reduces the risk of holdouts because offset language is about the only major variable to potentially be negotiated.

Same here.

I'm not going to pretend for 1 second that Hurney deserves a parade for getting Brown signed. But for those insinuating it's meaningless probably don't remember Joey Bosa's contract situation in 2016. San Diego tried to hardball him on things like offset language, he held out pretty much till the end of preseason and missed the first 4 games of the regular season trying to learn the defense and get in game shape. Good to see the Panthers aren't wasting time being unnecessarily cheap.

I always thought Ben Rothlisberger was a pretty good example of this as well. Walked into a well stocked roster as a rookie and for the first few years they just needed him to not lose, as opposed to asking him to win it. Worked out pretty well for his overall development as a qb I'd say.

Tom Brady's first few years were kind of like that, especially the first Super Bowl.  He had like 90 yards for the entire Super Bowl up until that final drive, then led his team to a field goal and won! LOL

Agreed! The dates of actual cash payout is also negotiable. I think that is usually what holds deals up, especially with some of the cheap ___ owners. Thankfully we are not in that club any longer.

On the surface people assume all NFL teams are basically the same, but when you get into the details you see a substantial difference in how they treat and pay their players.  Like you just brought up, some teams string out their payments.  Even signing bonuses, which people assume are paid immediately, are split up into multiple payments over time for some teams.

Fully guaranteeing the contract is a good move to screw other teams when you draft a sure bet first rounder.  It gives the other first rounders leverage that will hurt other teams who drafted poorly in the first round, and inflates the value of players whose position might not normally justify the contract price/terms.

For example, imagine the team who picked 8 or 9th draft a TE. Now they might have to pay aN unproven Rookie TE $20 million guaranteed for 4 years.  That’s a lot of risk to put on your salary cap.

This signing changes nothing for other first rounders.  Fully guaranteed first round contracts are the standard now.   Last year the Top 24 picks were ALL fully guaranteed and the next 8 were guaranteed for the first three years.

Oh thanks, I thought only the signing bonuses were fully guaranteed.
