Donte Jackson

Ridicule me all you want, but I think Jackson makes a Josh Norman like leap this year and becomes a top 5 zone CB in 2021. Remember Norman had his beatings his first two years, but year three it began to click. Jackson has the skill and swagger, just needs to focus it.

Josh Norman is actually built like a corner though. Donte Jackson isn't built like an NFL player. I really think Jackson is just too small to be a great corner, and that's not a height thing, that's a body size thing. Dude is 175 drilling wet. Julio takes dumps bigger than that and we expect him to match up against him? I just can't see it happening, but hey, I've been wrong before and would absolutely love for him to turn it around and be a stud.

He's definitely really slight built. I'd love to see him come in this year 15 pounds heavier.

A dude like Donte gaining 15 pounds in ONE offseason?!?!?

He’d need to go on one hell of a harsh stack and even then he ain’t gaining and maintaining an extra 15 pounds.

5 pounds would be impressive

I'm a couple of inches taller plus 5 pounds heavier than DJ and would have trouble tackling Julio.  I'd give it the ole college try tough...wrapping the torso.  If I'm getting punked, it ain't from trying to grab onto Julio's socks.  He's dragging my a$$ down the field hanging from his waist.

It's a concern.

His not wanting to listen to anybody, even his veteran teammates, might be a bigger one.

Is going to be the deciding factor on how good this team is in 2020 in my opinion. D-line is loaded, LBs have decent core, D-back is very weak. Donte Jackson has shown flashes (although some regression his sophomore year). Barring a trade, he looks to be our #1 corner in 2020, if he shows up and pulls a 15 Norman, I think this defense can be 16th in the league good, if he turns into Daryl Worley, we are going to have a long year on defense. Normal years, I'd be ok with having the pass rush we have and going weak on defensive back, but I ain't gonna lie and say I'm not concerned considering how stacked our division is.

Most 12-4 teams would likely go 10-6, 9-7 in what we will be playing in next year.

Should have traded him this year...cause next year everyone will know he is not even worth on the PS teams.  If I am wrong I will admit it, but the last two years have not been great for our #2 CB side of the ball.

The defense had top numbers until Kawaan Short got hurt. D.J. Moore was top 5 in receiving yards. The team wasn't great, but CMC wasn't the only bright spot.

Wow, that’s one way to think about it. First game with Short we gave up 150 yards rushing and multiple TDs. Brown and Gurley both had season highs. We made the Rams running game, which was putrid all year, look like CMC. Looked exactly the same as later in the year when we made the Redskins running game look all world. Our D gave up 30 points to a mediocre offense and awful running game. At no point were we ever a top unit last year. The only thing we had all year was QB pressure but that’s because I think that’s all our DL cares about was sack stats seeing as how all but Burns were basically auditioning for FA contracts (no chance we were paying Poe in 2020).

Moore and CMC were our only bright spots. Burns could have been if he didn’t punch his way to little playing time.

He will never come back and simply admit he was wrong.

I’ve got hope but his mentality is not good for turning around his game. The interceptions look great on paper but he takes way too many chances and he gets beat way more often for long gains than he gets interceptions. Also, it wasn’t just a sophomore slump. He slumped really badly in the second half of 2018. He was getting burned all the time like Perriman on Cleveland for 90 yards. This year looked the same like that random WR on Atlanta catching his first NFL catch for a 90 yard TD against Donte.

He’ll make that amazing interception but he follows it up with multiple huge gains given up. It’s a problem when you give up way more long gains (leading to scores) than interceptions. My worry is that he doesn’t have the attitude to work on what makes him terrible at times.

It’s funny in here because sometimes you feel people are watching a completely different game than you. Especially when it comes to glossing over incorrect posts and repeating them all the time.

you don't know me stbugs....when I make a mistake I admit it, but you just summed up why he is not a PS team player either.  I rather have 10 of them than D Jack.  They understand their weakness, but he doesn't cause it is mental not physical.  His actions last year proved that 100%.

Agreed. He’s trying to be a playmaker hot shot all the time and he’s not really great in coverage. He loses guys all the time. Still hopeful, but damn that all or nothing was brutal on him and then his response wasn’t about mistakes and being humble and working harder. You fell like he completely missed what the vets were trying to teach him and he basically duplicated his rookie mistakes.
