Hard to completely blame DJ for his performance last year. Our Front 7 was bad.

He played pretty poorly for a chunk of the year. And that was with a Dline getting massive sacks at the cost of any run game.

Now is his chance to put all of that behind him.

Dude got caught peaking the in backfield too often and got burned.  In college he could make up ground quick enough for those errors.  In the NFL, all the WR has to do is get just past him and the QB will deliver the ball.  There is no recovery time, 4.28 speed or not.  He's too small for press coverage.  Guys like Mike Evans will toss him aside.  What best suits him is man coverage with bail technique. Forget the RB and focus on his assignment.  If the RB or QB busts a long run, that's when he can put that speed to use...as long as he can make a form tackle (not the shoelace duster variety).

Is going to be the deciding factor on how good this team is in 2020 in my opinion. D-line is loaded, LBs have decent core, D-back is very weak. Donte Jackson has shown flashes (although some regression his sophomore year). Barring a trade, he looks to be our #1 corner in 2020, if he shows up and pulls a 15 Norman, I think this defense can be 16th in the league good, if he turns into Daryl Worley, we are going to have a long year on defense. Normal years, I'd be ok with having the pass rush we have and going weak on defensive back, but I ain't gonna lie and say I'm not concerned considering how stacked our division is.

Most 12-4 teams would likely go 10-6, 9-7 in what we will be playing in next year.

Donte Jackson could be a mix of rod Woodson and Deion sanders in their prime with a little bit of revis and Richard Sherman mixed in and this team still wouldn’t win more than 4 games.

Well, it may not be immediately apparent in year one, but the way Rhule is building the team from the line back, hopefully everyone from the LBs to the secondary will start looking better than they might have looked otherwise.

I know it's not about this, and it has been expressed many times, but man I loved the draft.

To me, the best option for our CB situation is: sign a veteran CB #1, Pride Junior #2 and DJ in nickle.

Teams highly value tackling in a nickel. When in nickel, your nickelback essentially has to serve as the third LB vs. the run.

I have more faith that he can clean up his tackling than being on the outside and playing soundly.  Again, he trusts his speed too much and it causes him to not play smart football.  Plus if he's over the slot, he'll have help if he does miss a tackle.  Bad decisions and subpar tackling on the outside is not a good combination.

Against the run. We had the second most sacks in the NFL.

We weren't terrible pass rushers, but part of me wonders if some of that wasn't because our defense spent so much time on the field more than them simply being great pass rushers. Probably a bit of both, but your point is well taken.

Jackson is definitely getting deserved hate, I'm probably holding onto tight hoping against hope that he's not a complete bust.

We were 23rd in time of possession last year, so our defense definitely spent an above average amount of time on the field. But, we had the 2nd most sacks while facing the 21st most passing attempts. Teams attempted 544 passes against us. TB led the league in that category at 664. We were 8th in the league in most rushing attempts against our defense. It all just confirms what I thought I saw last season - teams were basically just lining up and cramming the ball down our throats because we couldn't stop it.

He's not a bust...he was a 2nd rounder who has started games for us, and will probably play in the NFL for a long time barring major injury....

However, I'm not convinced that he is an outside starter, maybe he gets there...but to me it looks like he can play the position, but doesn't really know how yet...he has the skills, now he needs the smarts.

Same thing happened to Josh, but Norman never had that skill set.
