Donte Jackson

Recommended Posts

Is going to be the deciding factor on how good this team is in 2020 in my opinion. D-line is loaded, LBs have decent core, D-back is very weak. Donte Jackson has shown flashes (although some regression his sophomore year). Barring a trade, he looks to be our #1 corner in 2020, if he shows up and pulls a 15 Norman, I think this defense can be 16th in the league good, if he turns into Daryl Worley, we are going to have a long year on defense. Normal years, I'd be ok with having the pass rush we have and going weak on defensive back, but I ain't gonna lie and say I'm not concerned considering how stacked our division is.

Most 12-4 teams would likely go 10-6, 9-7 in what we will be playing in next year.

Donte Jackson totaled seven interceptions over his first two seasons, tied for second-most among NFL cornerbacks in 2018-19. He had a sophomore slump while dealing with injuries, veteran teammates chewing him out non stop, all while the coaching staff ran the team into the ground.

A fresh start and actual competition will do him good.

Jackson could start earning a new contract this year or be off the team. He has been abused with Bradburry here and we will see if he is picked on a little less now that we don't have one CB that's above average. The fact he is sub 6' is also not a great sign going into this year with all of the additions being on the other side of that.

Guys, it's a simple as a FA.  That is unless the staff wants the secondary to learn trial by fire style.  It was been discussed thoroughly a veteran FA CB would do wonders for that group.   The only thing I can think of is they move Burris back to natural position of corner which frees Chinn up to start at FS.  Burris was switched to safety once in the League; he's traditionally a corner.

Like it or not he's the #1. I couldn't defend going D-line 1&2 for that very reason after not replacing Bradberry in FA.

D Thomas has a leg up by being brought in in that competition. That and the 5", sorry couldn't help myself.

It’s every bit as likely Jackson rebounds and continues getting better as it is he just sucks and last year is who he is. Everyone but CMC sucked last year.  He deserves a chance to rebound.

The defense had top numbers until Kawaan Short got hurt. D.J. Moore was top 5 in receiving yards. The team wasn't great, but CMC wasn't the only bright spot.

I have noticed over the years that posters on this forum greatly overvalue interceptions.

Just because you pick a lot of balls doesn't mean you are a good corner...and while I hope that DJ makes a turn this year, it's kinda hard for me to envision.  Hope to be proven wrong.

Also, I don't think that he will be covering the "1's".

We were playing crappy teams, that’s the only reason the defense looked decent. The only decent team we faced those first four weeks was the Rams and they put up 30. My statement was a little hyperbolic, but you’re right about Moore, he was solid last year. But my point is most of the team, especially defense, looked worse than they actually are.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
