why Teddy bridge water is a good qb for us as of now

What I like about Bridgewater: He hasn’t had a chance to be “the guy” since he was in his first couple of years since Minnesota. This is his opportunity. He didn’t put up amazing numbers for the Saints this year, but he went undefeated. He’s 27, hitting his prime, and was worth a 3-year contract. He’s not going to move like Cam, but with Joe Brady and these receivers, he has a chance to put up seriously great numbers.

other free agent quarterbacks have gone to new teams and done better than they did before ( perfect example is Drew Brees). If something crazy like that happens, then I see no reason why he’s not the guy. On the other hand, even if he’s only as good as he’s ever been in the past, that still makes him a very good bridge quarterback for whoever we have next.

So I think it could go either way. I’m leaning towards him being a bridge to the future, but it could be either/or... TB5 has been one of my favorite quarterbacks since he entered the league, if he balls out, obviously we keep him on board. If not, then we ship him off. His contract seems to say no though.

It’s clear this season that the team wants somebody who can learn this new offense. Bridgewater is familiar with the system that Brady wants to run. He can eventually run it and they can groom a future quarterback.

Being that this is the first year into a seven year project, there’s no rush to find the quarterback of the future today. Maybe will Grier comes back ready to knock it out of the park. Maybe walker surprises us. All of it is highly doubtful.

I think this year they simply want to quarterback who can manage the offense, learn the system, and then hopefully set us up so that next year we can draft a quarterback that we can groom. By Bridgewater’s second or third season we will have figured it out.

Lawrence, Fields, Lance in that order is who I want.

You forgot to mention, once we draft one of these guys and Teddy looks decent - he’s gonna have some trade value because his contract is front loaded. Seems like a win-win when it’s all said and done correctly.

Where does this optimism come from that a journeyman QB is going to develop into something else in his late 20s?

The same glass half full optimism that hopes an injured player can come back and do well.  We have been doing just that with Cam for the last 2 years minimum.  No telling whether or not Teddy would decent, great, or out of the league right now had it not been for the bad knee injury.  It is a toss up, so why not think positive.  He did look pretty good stepping in for Brees, which is no small feat.

I think there's a difference between a player returning to form and a player transforming into something they never were.
