So if anyone actually clicked the "article" in the OP you'll notice how SI has turned to Bleacher Reports old model of allowing just about anyone with a pulse to write an "article". I was expecting some kind of piece with maybe a quote or a bit of news, but yeah, SI was bought out and turned into a glorified blog hosting site.

That piece was no different than a post on this forum from PantherzDude69. Not saying that's a bad thing but yeah

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph the carpenter! I am so sick of hearing all these "fans" talk about tanking. You play a sport to win, never to intentionally lose! What Miami did last year was appalling and embarrassing, and I hope they suck for a long long time. Are we going to win the SB this year? I doubt it. The division? Unlikely. BUT, I will be cheering for a win every time the Panthers take the field, and so should you.

egotistical congratulations GIF

You are correct at the talent at the top. It’s solid. Now if we go 7-9, then we miss out on everything. I still believe we need a franchise QB. We aren’t solid everywhere else enough to get a game manager to the SB and that’s what we all want. I always mention Lawrence but there are other solid QBs and I hope we don’t stay in the mediocre range. When the second best QB is a guy coming off a bad injury (and many others), you can trade up big Fields and Lawrence do what they do, no one is trading out of 1 and 2.

I can't see this roster led by a very green NFL coaching staff pulling of 7 wins. If we do, then Rhule/Brady really are THAT good. Unfortunately, we'd probably be looking at losing Brady.

I think the defense will be better than advertised.

If they plan to follow the New Orleans Saints :poison: model because, you know, they hug dem gonads, they will be Saint like in the playoffs and LOSE every time. Is that who we want to be. Is that how we want to smell? No. This is CAROLINA, we win when we get there, we've advanced to the SB twice and were the FIRST back to back NFCS CHAMPS.

Have some pride coaching staff YOU became Panthers, leave the rest behind, EVOLVE.

We dumped a lot of talent from last years team. A LOT. Last years team was terrible. We have considerably less talent on our roster than last years team. We'll be relying on rookies who will be inconsistent early on due to a lack of practice, and some or all of them might under perform or turn out to be busts.

What we do have is a better QB, new coaches, and a new system. This is season one of our rebuild. If we don't end up with a top 5 draft pick then Bridgewater is a freaking beast and everyone has underestimated him, and Rhule and his staff are geniuses.

I see a top 5 pick incoming, but there is an X factor in play. We play NFCS teams down the stretch, and end the season with an NFCS team. The Saints, Bucs, or Falcons might rest their starters and hand us a devastating win. The Saints are the biggest threat to do this but any of our rivals could have a great season.

The games against Chicago and Detroit will be the only games we win.

Washington, Oakland and evening Denver worry me a bit too.

I do think 5 is the absolute MAX we will win. But 5 wins will f*ck us really good. Rhule will never be able to turn this organization around without a QB and with each season we miss out the less likely we are to get top pick. It was lined up perfectly for us this off season smh

Back to all the tank for Trevor posts again.

Honestly I am glad the Panthers aren't tanking and are trying to compete in 2020. While we will struggle on defense the offense should be better than the past 2 years with most guys healthy and a new system in place. This year should set us for the future.

I have no clue how many games we will win but the whole idea of stripping the team of talent to tank "naturally" was and is a stupid idea as if we can simply get a quarterback and rebuild quickly. It can work if you have a fundamentally good team having a down year, then you can get lucky and get a good QB and do well. Or like the Rams, get a new coach and start over but they are the exception not the rule. Teams traditionally in the bottom like Cincy, Cleveland, Miami etc stay at the bottom even as they keep bringing in QBs and high round picks each year.

of those 3, I'd say Washington worries me the most, but it's on the road.

I’m not a fan of tanking for a player. Lawrence could still struggle in the NFL. People thought Ryan Leaf and Tim Couch were going to be the next big stars also. More importantly it’s discouraging to players on your roster. You think Moore, Samuel, CMC etc... want Grier throwing them the ball. It would ruin their production and cost them money. Some would want to sign with other teams. Players like CMC are super competitive and want to be able to compete right away. Will we be a below average team? Probably. However the staff is sending a message they want every player trying and they are willing to put pieces around them to help. They are trying to establish a new culture and tanking would be counterproductive in doing so.

Be at the bottom, or be at the top. Don't muddle in the middle. We need to hit on one of the top QBs in the 2021 draft. The worst thing Rhule could do is use the 2021 draft to build up the talent level of the team and ignore the QB position. Our worst case scenario is TB as our long term QB, and Rhule slowly building a good team around him. This would put us in the middle of the NFL for many seasons to come, and an empty SB trophy display. I'd rather get slaughtered and pull the trigger on top QB prospects than have a decent team that will never win a SB. We can be pretty good in the long run with TB. I don't want pretty good. We could have had that with RR.

As opposed to winning every time in the playoffs like we have been doing? The Saints actually won a Super Bowl and have been a perennial powerhouse for much of the past decade, so yeah what they’re doing is working much better.

We were in the perfect place with perfect timing.

This is what pisses me off the most. Everything lined up perfectly for us. The ones being paid a lot of money to see this ignored it. That’s the scariest part. They couldn’t even recognize the golden opportunity that was right in front of their faces.

We’re A LOT closer to being the new Browns than we are anything else
