27. Carolina Panthers

Post-free-agency ranking: 27

Player who benefited: DE-OLB Brian Burns. Adding first-round pick Derrick Brown at defensive tackle next to Pro Bowler Kawann Short is going to create a lot of inside push and demand a lot of double-teams. That leaves Burns, last year's first-round pick, with more room to get to the quarterback. Look for a lot more Spider-Man celebrations out of Burns, who impersonates his superhero with "Spidey" poses after each sack. He had 7.5 last season as a rookie, despite dealing with a wrist injury that forced him to wear a cast or a brace for much of the season. Quarterbacks beware. -- David Newton

They think the skins, det, and the giants are going to be worse than us?  I dont see it.  Bengals are getting a ton of talent back that they lost last year but they are going to be starting a rookie.  I think the Jags are def the worst team with us and the bengals as the next one up.  I honestly think riverboat is going to have the redskin defense playing at a high level.  Lots of talent on that side of the ball.

Also, weird seeing the Pats that low and the Bucs that high. Excuse me if I don't buy the hype for the Browns 2.0, though.

Browns seem to win the Offseason every year but still turn into poo during the real season

It is amazing what a solid DL will do for a team.  When the first thing the QB and C see when they get to the line is four guys they would rather not see, it can have quite an effect on the opposing offense.  Our defense could go from Swiss cheese to decent or better if that group can gel early.

I don't care about prognostication. I care about on-field performance. We could be much better than that - or, gulp, worse.

Bottom line for me is that I think we're moving in the right direction. Back to back playoff seasons under Rhule? I think it's going to happen, and probably in the next 5 seasons.

    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
    • I would say maybe 8 in a tier by themselves and all but 2 where picked in the top of the first allen pat m stroud burrow jackson hurts (maybe) Herbert Stafford
