Florio: league source predicted that the Saints and Panthers will be sanctioned for draft violation

The evidence of that fact comes from the nonchalance with with Saints coach Sean Payton shared the details of the in-draft bidding war for Mississippi State quarterback Tommy Stevens. In comments to Jeff Duncan of TheAthletic.com, Payton acknowledged that he eventually traded back into round seven to disrupt an agreement that the Panthers had reached with Stevens and his agent on a contract to be signed after the draft.

The rules in this regard are clear, and they were reiterated in the April 21 memo from the league’s player personnel department. Once the draft begins, teams that aren’t on the clock can speak to representatives of players who were not yet drafted, but those conversations must focus only on non-financial matters.

Our side is hearsay and Payton is the only one that admitted to anything. If we are smart, we play dumb. What Brady texted to him could be a problem, unknown by me, and is not a very smart situation.

All for some supposed to be UDFA QB....smdh

Everything about this is hilariously petty by Payton. I very seriously doubt this results in anything more than a virtual wrist slapping from the NFL. Like free agency tampering, it's well known that all the teams are working on lining up UDFAs long before the draft officially wraps up.

Please, every team has deals worked out before the draft ends. That's why half the big time udfas are signed 1 minute after the draft. This is a laughable story.

Plausible. But they don’t admit to it like Payton did. That’s the issue.

Panthers lose their 2021 and 2022 1st round picks, Saints get a $7,500 fine.

Similar to back when guys amazingly negotiated and agreed to complicated free agent deals one minute after midnight...

It's one of those things that everybody knows about but if specific news like this comes out, you'll probably get a fine or something.
