One of the biggest moments of the World Series was Damon's steal of third base in Game Four. It supposedly discouraged Brad Lidge from using his strikeout pitch, the slider. My question....could the Phillies have moved a defender from his position in the field to behind the catcher? If no, why?

I'm pretty sure a player has to be in the field of play when the ball is either pitched or the pitcher is on the rubber.

Yep.

On the rubber.

Once he is off and ball is away, you can back-up any position/base but before that you have to be in field of play.

I guess you can't pitch the ball unless you're on the rubber anyway. lol
