Did Rhule lie about Newton?

First, I don't believe Tepper or Rhule ever had any intentions of bringing Cam back. It's a culture change move. Just say that and move on. I may not have liked it, but I would have respected it more. With that being said, yes Rhule lied. Flat out.

Second, why do some of us think it was necessary to be coy and dishonest? Lying is not standard operating procedure. Nothing was ever to be gained or lost from being straight forward from the beginning.

Sure it is. Deceiving more than lying happens everyday in corporate America. Heck Santa Claus is a lie but we continue to tell it. But on to Cam. I think they knew they were not bring Cam back. The shopped him around, told the public they supported him, then realize they were not getting anything and let him go. Its that simple. I dont blame them and I wish Cam well.

Imagine being Rhule---you are hired and dropped into this mess.

To me it was obvious (I was surprised the released the footage) in the "Behind the Mask" (I think that was the name of the Panther series) when Rhule was being prepped to be interviewed at the combine.  Rhule even seemed to run his statement by the staffers to see if they were OK.

One thing you need to know about contracts--when he is under contract, that is all you know---things change---and if you say something and the winds shift, you have to live with it.  He was not lying--he was speaking from his perspective and not anyone else's--but he had to be careful not to give Cam or his base fodder to use against the front office.

Speaking of lying, hasn't it been confirmed that our former QB lied on multiple occasions about the extent of his injury to the training staff?

Yep. Sure did.

Though I'm somehow more accepting of that lie. It was not for his benefit but for that of the team.

Shocked at grand dragon’s response to this topic. Anyone else as shocked as I am by it?

Yes they lied. Point blank. But we are moving on with Teddy and hopefully a new QB after next year or the following years draft, if not we could be stuck at 8-8 for awhile

Both Tepper and Rhule inherited a damaged QB when they got here. Cam was once a top 5 QB just like Luke was a top 3 MLB. While different injuries happened to both they had the same trajectory. I loved Cam and he's still one of my top 3 players I absolutely loved to watch play football  He was also given little support to keep him up right and health for 10 years. Also I think with Rhule and a new scheme change came a wish he would get healthy, but also had a uncertainty that could not be ignored. I think when the team knew it could get a QB that was familiar with the system, and could run the offense for multiple years Cams time was up. It's a tough business and one that wasn't completely fair to Cam. As we see now though Cam wants a starting job and that wasn't going to happen in Carolina, and a clean break was needed. He will still be getting paid by us and he can take his time to choose the right team. I don't think Rhule lied. I just think the situation changed where Bridgewater gave us a better chance to win and Rhule wants to win. Don't blame the new coach and owner for sins of the past. Ones that were committed by a old owner and coach. Day one Rhule went out and got the outside protection he needed for his QB that Richardson nor Rivera ever did for Cam.

I'm less interested in feelings and more interested in wins. Whether they knew or not that Newton would/would not be coming back, they took the opportunity to upgrade when they got it. Sadly enough, right now TB is an upgrade over CN. Perhaps Cam comes back strong, but I have very little confidence that he can play the way he needs to play to be great AND stay healthy.
