Did Rhule lie about Newton?

They lied, if you don’t believe it, check out the players reaction to the infamous “we’ve allowed cam to seek a trade

horrible look by Rhule, hurney, and tepper

I don’t think cam goes on national air and says what he says if there wasn’t some indication of him returning

At this point, until he signs and proves his shoulder and foot are in good shape, you have to think letting him go was the best thing to do.  Keeping him for "old times sake" is probably not the best way to start a new program

I don't think they were purposely lying.  It's a business and they were exploring options at QB.  If Bridgewater wasn't interested in the position, who knows what we would have done?  They can't go up to Cam and be like, "We like you, but we're really hoping we can get somebody more reliable.  We'll let you know."  You don't want him to be disgruntled in the event that you do keep him.

I think Cam's exit started long before Rhule was even on the radar....

There are people who believe that.

Rodrigue has said that Tepper doubted the wisdom of signing Newton to an extension from the day he bought the team.

Rhule spoke the absolute truth as the situation stood at the time.

If anything Cam and his agent are to blame, clearly they overplayed their hand going all-in and their bluff was called --- busted.

Make a bad bet you gotta own it.

I don’t get why it matters either way? No reason to ever give anything away until the move is made.  This offseason has made it abundantly clear this fanbase prefers to be coddled more then they actually care about winning.

So I'm curious, where do you stand?

I'm sure Rhule was looking forward to coaching Cam at the time he said it.  However, as it played on and as the head coach having to make a decision, the decision was to allow Cam seek an offer.  No offers.  I see it strictly best for the team.  I respect a head coach and owner for doing what was right for the team overall.
