Long-time, Hurney hater here. but...

My entire point for willing to give Hurney another shot was that he was in a unique situation to observe a new guy, reflect upon his failures of the past, and make improvements for the future. I believe in smart people's ability to learn! As such, I wanted to give Hurney an honest shot to put that theory in to practice!

It hasn't been perfect, but I see the improvement! I see it on the business side and drafting, and acquisition of free agent.

As an aside, I haven't even given up on last year's draft. Things take time! Moreover, things like injury will happen every year, so I'm certainly not going to judge too harshly based upon that---won't even give it a second thought unless we draft someone with an injury history (e.g., like Tua has).

I think in terms of drafting....Marty has generally done whatever his HC wanted to a large degree.  Whatever needs/holes/emphasis that particular coach wanted.  Marty executed.

I think coaches like a GM like Marty.

Tepper needs to bring in (and I think he alluded to it) someone to deal w/ the aspects Marty doesn't do as well with.  The numbers/contracts.

I agree with this. I think we’ll see the Redskins making the same mistakes as Marty+Ron. Ron+Dave was more successful drafting because Dave has his own opinions. That’s also why I Want a new GM. Marty from 2009 to 2018 was awful, which to me means he didn’t really add anything and just drafted as asked. There were way too many connections from coaches to draftees and FAs to think Marty “ran” this draft. As mentioned, he got the coaches (and scouts) ranking sheet and turned in the cards. I don’t think he adds enough but it’s not my call.

Did we have a capologist? No.

And Hurney would agree that he would be glad to train his replacement. He is well into his sixties and isn't going to do this forever. That was the original plan when he came in 2017.

Yes. It was Rogers.

And depending on who we pick, they may not need Hurney to "train" them.

Staff contracts normally run until just after the draft.  The fact that he is still giving interviews is a fairly good indication of an extension. Would expect to hear something shortly.

He worked for Richardson for some time without one.

Never had a real big issue with Hurney’s drafts. Yea he makes some dumb moves sometimes but he’s got 2 major issues

1. Depth/FA - has zero clue how to fill out a roster

2. Throwing money at he the wrong guys, and too much at that

Those two things hold back what could be a consistently winning franchise (along with a decent coach but that’s not on Hurney) and they’re directly related to him and his job only.

Rogers didn't do all of the negotiations just the actual contracts from what I remember. Plus we brought in Sean Padden as Vice President of Football operations to work specifically with Rhule among others. So no there wasn't the same amount of help under Richardson. Tepper has a new Analytics department and other additions to help Marty do his job.  It is long overdue.

Wouldn't that be on the scouting department to help him do that? Do you think Hurney has the time to do the legwork himself or relies on his people.

Who has he thrown money to since he came back ?

Given that I've already basically stated that the full GM role is too big for Marty, yes I do.

Rhule has also said he doesn't like firing people. If one of his coordinators turns out to be terrible, are we going to keep them in place just to make Rhule happy also?

GMs dont typically fire or hire coaching staff
